Absolute coup. For how mediocre the Sale trade was this almost makes up for it. Giolito is a complete wildcard but if they can coach him up and get his shit straightened out he's an ace. I'm not even a huge believer in the guy, but there are not many arms like his. But the other two is where this shines. Such great depth there, Lopez is going to be a wonderful pitcher and Dunning is someone we will see very soon. When all the rankings come out in February the White Sox may wind up having 3 of the top 5 farm arms in baseball. Giolito and Kopech are raw talent off the scale, Lopez is just some small tweaks from being a good contributor and Dunning is a plug-and-play back of the rotation starter that carries as little risk as one can imagine. All for an OF who cant OPS over .800 and derives all his value from overperforming for 2 months in right field as a defender with stats that I have frankly little faith in. He got lucky on a few throws to home plate and they turned it into gold. Goddamn, this is a killer deal. Only issue now is the lack of position player prospects other than Moncada and Collins. They need more guys in Collins tier and more importantly they need to fill out that vast empty space between Collins and the next best positon player prospects (Call/Tilson/Basabe/Fisher etc.)...they need some more midrange guys. If they use Quintana, Frazier and (if they chose to move him) Abreu to acquire this they will be golden. After the Sale package came up a little light they needed to win big on the Eaton trade, and they have. Sigh of relief I guess. |

Those Washington morons ruined Strasburg and they would've ruined Giolito too. Herm and Cooper are very good in these cases, they will get his shit squared away from a health perspective. I think they'll find some of the lost velocity too. He needs to learn how to locate. He does that and they've really got something. But Giolito is really the 2nd piece in this deal, Lopez is the headliner and personal favorite of the Washington prospects (fuck Robles, not into buying guys with 2019 ETA's). |
