I hate to be quick with giving prospects the hook but he has been almost historically bad as an offensive player for more than 100 games in his career. I personally think he is a fantastic defender and apparently the Sox do as well but statistics do not bear this out. I think he gets the May treatment from last year and gets maybe a month more to see how Tilson or Cordell are doing in AAA. |

He can't hit for shit and his defense has been objectively bad to start the season so far. Get rid of him. |

Nobody on the team has played real good defense thus far, but I wouldn't give Engel more than a handful of games at the big league level right now. Clearly there is some talent there but if he can't produce better offensive numbers than a pitcher than he can't play everyday in the bigs. |

May One-th. Even if he does start playing well defensively, if he's under .200, this team can't afford the automatic out (or automatic strikeout). Let him get it together in the minors or elsewhere. |

What you see is what you get with the position players. Same with the starters. You'll see movement with the bullpen, don't expect a lot of players from the minors being called up. |

I am fine playing Engel all season in CF if his defense gets better. If not, I would give Tilson a shot or Cordell(sp?). |

There really is not a grain of truth to this statement. They have at least two OF in AAA who should be pushing for a call up. |

Engel is currently holding the top spot on my roster deadweight rankings. As soon as Tilson or Cordell show any sign of life he goes. |

No longer. He his hitting .165 with a .454 OPS. Pretty sure there are guys on this board who could do that. |

His mechanics are horrible. The fact that he was a starter on the White Sox only tells you how awful the White Sox organization is. This was the worse assembly of outfield guys ever for the White Sox. |

Engel is a poor man's Paul Blair. But i like him because he played in the Australian Baseball League one winter. (The next winter, Melbourne was blessed with Ronald Acuna Jr, who was coming off an injury and the Braves wanted him to get more reps. Everybody forgot about Engel in a heartbeat) |

That’s a weird fun league to follow. |

That’s a weird fun league to follow. I have family in Melbourne so I follow the Aces. They usually suck ass, except for the year they got Acuna, and he left before the championship game. Most of the "star" Australians are guys like Brad Harman, who got something like 25 meaningless September AB for the Philllies after they clinched the 2008 Eastern Division. The star catcher in the league is AA organizational filler. The guys who are actually playing in the big leagues like Peter Moylan usually only play in a couple of series right around Christmas. But it's fun to still have baseball on, and the announcers are a mix of US minor league guys picking up some extra resume items, and locals who are hillariously bad. Unfortunately, they cut way back on their streaming last year, and haven't posted anything for this year. I usually try to catch the Sunday afternoon games which start around 9pm Saturday in Chicago, but last year they were just streaming one game for the entire league each day. |

The fact that he played for the Sox in any games last season was a joke on a joke of a team. |

Three of us here actually know what the ABL is. Damn. That would triple the chat audience some nights on Aces broadcasts... I might try to get Les to adopt the ABL on his Friday morning updates, as that's game time in Australia. |

"He's got to hit. He's got to go play. Bottom line. He's got to go get some more at-bats," manager Rick Renteria said after Sunday's game. "He hasn't started with us. We've had (Leury Garcia) going out there, and Ryan (Cordell)'s getting his shot in right. We're making this move to get him the at-bats. "I'll tell you what I told him: I want his dynamic defense to be parallel with some offense. Simple as that. He needs to get on at a .330 clip, he needs to hit maybe .250 so that he can help you both offensively and defensively." |

Leury Garcia sucks as an everyday CF as well. He shouldn't be held up as an example. I think Engle tops out as a 4th OF but probably more of a 5th. He has useful MLB skills as a defender and runner. A good team could use him as a 7th inning replacement. The Sox suck enough that he has to play and gets exposed. |

He sucks with the glove, that much I'll give you. But Garcia is getting on base at a .336 clip and his OPS is at least respectable at .713. He's also scored 26 runs already which is top ten in all of MLB. |
