Hawk said it right 'If the kid didn't have bad luck, he wouldn't have any luck at all.' He was a blown pop up away from having a 2-1 lead after 5 innings with the Tigers and Uribe has to call for a ball and then bail on it. Hey Erstad - take charge out there! |

0-2 5.06 ERA and has given up 4 dingers in 16 innings and its the wind fault? Thats right, mother nature hates him. Come on...Maybe he just isnt ready. |

"blown" as in it was dropped and should have been caught, numbskull. im glad brian anderson is continuing to ride the pine so that darin erstad and his .157 avg can be in the leadoff spot every game |

I have a buddy who is a huge Angel fan who said Erstad wasnt never the same after he got hurt a few years ago, but it seems he is already a fan favorite, why? |

I'm pretty pleased with what I've seen from Danks. If Uribe catches that ball, he gives up 2 runs in 5 innings tonight. Great ? Hardly, but I wouldn't complain about that out of my starter against AL lineups. |

If he catches the ball Danks only give up 1 run through 5. Not 2 BD. He probably starts the 6th as well. |

Tonight's game he should have had a better result but losing to Santana 3-1 and then losing 4-0 at Cleveland (he gave up 2 runs in 5.2 innings) is nothing to sneeze at. He's done his job well, especially considering what the Sox had in the past for 5th starter. I'm not trying to convince a Cub fan but I think this kid has a bright future. |

Hell, he's taken Freddy's spot in the rotation. That SOB had a 4.5 ERA and won 17 games last year. Wins are not the barometer all of the time. Look at Lilly for the Cubs. He's had 3 great starts and 2 losses. |

Not to correct you Beardown, but Lilly has actually had 4 very good starts. |

ill take what danks has done so far over the "would be" 5th starter mccarthy. he got knocked out in the 2nd inning for the second straight start.. |

McCarthy shelled again. Lasted an inning. It's early, but I think the lesson of the century may be 'Trust Kenny Williams', period. |

6-11, 5.30 era, has given up 25 dingers and this is the guy, terry boers called the best 5ths starter in baseball. Terry has gone beyond being a sell out. |

If Terry said that 2 months ago he was right. Things change. I said at the break Garland was a border line All Star. That was true at the time. Now he's bad. Like Hawk would say "That's baseball DJ." |

Danks didnt get some breaks, but no way in hell was he EVER the best 5th guy in baseball, that was terry just licking the crack of danks because he was on their show. Danks has been HORRIBLE, this year, maybe next year he will be better and more prepared, but overall he has been bad. |

Maybe he wasn't the best. But there are thirty 5th starters. After the first half of the season he was no worse then the 5th best. |

Do you guys see a pitcher with a big upside ? I don't. I think he can be a solid starter, maybe a #3 at best, but I don't see how he was ranked as the Rangers #1 starter unless the Rangers system is really horrible, and Kenny just fell in love with him like he did with Floyd. |

Some of you guys sound like Cub fans these days....everyone is great, just bad luck....oh wait, Hawk must have more then one screen name here. I think Danks is going to be a decent pitcher, he is a lefty, so he will always have a job, but he is on pace to give up almost 40 homers and a era in the 5's.....in no way does that deserve any type of praise. |
Author: | Beardown [ Sun Aug 19, 2007 8:38 pm ] |
Post subject: | |
Yeah. No better then a 3rd starter at best. That being said he had a better season then McCarthy. Danks stayed healthy and took the ball every 5th day. McCarthy didn't. Plus I think McCarthy is 6-10 with a 4.50 or something like that. |

Why do I sound like a Cubs fan? I said he's bad now but had a good first half for a 5th starter. There is nothing wrong with that statement. Things change during a season. How about the Cubs fans that hated Jones and now love him. Every fan likes them when they are good and hates them when they are bad. It's really that simple. But I don't hate Danks. Hope he's learned something this year but I don't have Cy Young aspirations for him. |

Did I mention your name? Not you, some others on this board, sorry I should have been more clear when I posted that. My point on Danks, I think everyone sat here and beleived KW on his ability, right now, I am not sold on him. |

kinda sounds like bigfan lately actually.... And if I was wrong, I would have taken it like a big boy, Sox will be fine next year if KW decides to shelf his ego and do his job. |
