There's some nice premium 2nd tier free agents in Kuechel and Pollock available. Could probably snag both for half of Machado's commitment. Then you plug a hole at CF and SP.

Cheap asshole of an owner. Doesn’t go beyond that factor.

I guess patience and agents win out. As a Sox fan I am disappointed but am glad there isn’t some 10 year anchor around my team.

Machado was never worth this money anyway. He’s overrated. Be happy this happened and enjoy signing your Jon Lester when you’re ready to compete in 2020.

Ya know what makes a bad contract tolerable?

A Championship or two.

Sox are nowhere near seeing one in this next 10 year period.

Oh well the Cubs fans will learn what a cheap owner is when the extensions/paydays come for their stars. They won’t be paying the all like this.

Parkins made a good point on this yesterday. He’d rather they spend now on a 26yr old Harper than drop that same money on 30yr old Bryant when he’s finally a FA.

Oh, there's a ten year anchor around this team.

Yeah I heard that too. He’s right. Aside from Hispanic angle it would make more sense for Sox too to buy the Harper splash for 10 years than Machado.

C’mon when Eloy gets here he’ll be a solid .280 25 HR guy. Hope they don’t delay starting his clock though, he may hold that against them years later .

They’ll try their best to ruin him but won’t be able to. Regardless of when his clock starts I have to imagine he will be bolting town at the first chance. There’s no reason a top tier player should want to sign or resign with a team that operates like a minor league club like the Sox.

Miggy is going to be a first ballot HOF'er. Will Machado be?

You take a look at Miggy's last two seasons? Or the fact that he is owed $154 million over the next four seasons, with another $64 million in options that may vest? Or that the Tigers have not won a World Series with Miggy on the roster?

Because they have had a joke of a franchise, where the star pitcher cuts up uniforms just to get traded. Where a player quits the team because they won't allow his kid in the clubhouse. Most importantly though because they have had a losing team 5 years straight, with no guarantee they will avoid another losing season anytime soon. Plus, it's a team that is looked upon as "the other" team in town, with a mediocre ballpark in a shitty area of town.

Bridgeport isn't a shitty area, that's ridiculous

If that is true, they lost out on Machado but will save 6 million per year over the next 8.

Not sure if that's a win or not.

Not sure if that's a win or not.

You have to subtract the $$ they are paying Machado's relatives for the true savings.
