Narvaez did the Mariners no favors in pitch framing today

Cowboy Joe doesn't believe in pitch framing.

He's one of the worst defensive catchers I have ever seen. His glove is constantly moving all over the place and he is awful in the pitches in the dirt. I don't miss this guy a bit.

He blocked a whole bunch of pitches today. And his framing is something that can be worked on. There aren't many catchers in the game right now who are better offensively. The Sox certainly don't have any.

Beef is serviceable.

But yes giving Navarez away was fairly stupid.

He will never improve the framing. It is what he is and bottom line, he is a lazy catcher. The guy is a lousy defensive catcher. Pretty good offensively but not a guy to be a catcher to a young pitching staff.

The following is a fantasy baseball related post which may or may not be frowned upon. I apologize in advance.

Another homer tonight.

71 AB
.300 AVG
.875 OPS
5 HR
12 RBI
16 Runs

Catcher is a barren wasteland for fantasy production. I didn’t even draft one. Just plucked this dude up off the waiver wire.

His defense is nothing special, I know. But is there room for improvement?

Why is he not here.

Always was a terrible decision from her go but I don’t even know how to rank it among Hahn’s worst choices. They’re in the discussion for worst front ofifices in sports and it all ties back to Jerry. I can’t fucking wait til he dies.

I know Jorr is a cub fan but I'd put it @ he's a 70% Sox fan, 30% Cubs.

The Cubs are the best team in town as far as Mlb goes.

It ranks up there because how do you not value a good left handed hitter who plays catcher. They don't exactly grow on trees.

The Sox seemed to have found a better catcher in James McCann. This guy is a player.

I expect that idiot who makes the line-up out to bench him again and start Castillo.

He cant catch every day. Even the best catchers in the league only start 130 or so games a year. McCann has DH'd a few times.

The Sox record is really good when he starts, something like 15-8, polar opposite when Castillo starts.

great post. I'm all about keeping catchers' fresh and you can totally do that with 120 games. Plus you can shortcut it by using off days and giving them a full 2 days rest. That extra day means a lot.

Im surprised that they didn't deal Castillo to the Ray's when both Ray's catchers hit the DL within a day or two.

That's not entirely true. He was a second round pick and had a decent 2017.

However, at almost 29 years old, my guess is we are just catching a good wave. I wouldn't buy this long term.

It's nice that he is still under arbitration control for next season so we don't have to make any silly decisions. Sox FO specializes in making silly decisions.

My guess is the guy would jump at a longer term offer at a reasonable price to the team. It would take pretty big onions for a guy of his track record to bet on himself as a 30 year old free agent.

I would try and lock McCann up with a good contract. The guy is to me a late bloomer who has figured it out. I love to watch the guy' approach as a hitter. His base is solid offensively and has a short compact swing What really impresses me is his ability to hit to all fields. In this age of teams shifting defensively especially in the infield, the ability to hit it where it is pitched is a pleasure to watch.

I'd give him the year before beating down the door with a wheel barrow full of money. Slow the roll a bit.

But he and Giolito, for sure, have got something going.
