I saw on mlbtraderumors, https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/05/ ... tires.html, that Jake Peavy just officially retired. Evidently, he was plotting a comeback as recently as last summer. In any event, the most interesting thing about the article is what the White Sox gave up to get him: Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell. I had forgotten what a fine pile of garbage that was. While he was pretty much mediocre, it was certainly a far cry from the James Shields trade. |

He was making like 20 mildough and he wasn't any better than Richard. He was actually worse since Richard's arm DIDN'T fall off and had 3 years with SD with an under 4 ERA. |

It would have constituted a human rights violation for the Sox to have given Richard 30+ starts in the Cell against AL lineups. |

Daniel Hudson. What ever became of him? I get him and Richard confused. |

Tommy John, other arm problems; he's bounced around the league as a reliever. |

It isn't like the Sox knew Peavy was injury prone and had shit mechanics to boot. San Diego didn't mind giving up the Cy Younger for next to nothing, and still won the deal. |

Quote: Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell. Who are four guys that are making decent money training Jr. High and High School kids at their own academies. Meanwhile Peavy made $127 million, so he is doing OK. Ugh, Richard made $19 million!? And they wonder why kids are pressured to excel at sports in high school. |

He's not instructing anybody. He's been in the bigs 11 years. It seems like people want to deflect and criticize Clayton Richard for a bad trade. The fact of the matter is the Sox, out of sheer luck, only got hosed a little bit. Peavy was high priced damaged goods and a dickhead to boot. It was a bad trade, I caught all kinds of shit criticizing it at the time, and nothing has changed. People are STILL taking shots at Richard for Peavy's spectacular failure. |

People are STILL taking shots at Richard for Peavy's spectacular failure. Richard has had a long career, I'll give you that, but it hasn't been a particularly good one. He's racked up a Career WAR of 1.2. Peavy had three single season WAR's as a member of the White Sox that were higher than that total. Also, I don't think Richard was the guy San Diego was salivating for in the Peavy trade. I suspect they were after former first round pick Aaron Poreda. |

I just worried that the Sox were still paying him for a moment. |

Richard is a former Cub. Funny how nobody mentioned that. |
