When he asked why Marvin Miller wasn't in the HOF, it should've been apparent to the most dense.

It's pretty silly that he's not. Probably the fourth or fifth most important guy in baseball history.

Wholeheartedly agreed. Maybe the third most important in the last 75 years as well.

I mean isn’t he number 1?

I'd say Alexander Cartwright, Babe Ruth, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, and Jackie Robinson are all more important. Maybe Flood is too.

What about the first guy to grab the seams and spin it? Pitchers to this day are still dreaming about inventing the pitch of all pitches. Blyleven's curve. Rivera's cutter. And of course guys who didn't spin it. Wilhelm and Wood. And guys who spit on it and scuffed it.

For me it's always been the most fascinating thing about baseball.

+ Ban Johnson and Branch Rickey. Maybe they are in the second five.

Edit: And Tyrus.

Imo, you can swap Johnson and Rickey in for the potential myth of Cartwright and Landis

Doubleday is the myth. Cartwright actually set up the basics of the game we have today

That MLB venerates both of them makes them both look illegitimate in my book. And as embarrassing as Landis.

I know this is the unpopular opinion but I find Walton's announcing to be contrived shit. If those words were coming out of Henry Rollins mouth...well, some would still think it was brilliant but more of us would recognize it for the incoherence that it is. I've never been a fan.

Also, I understand liking a band but you have to be a real douche to let yourself be defined by your fandom. Bill, like most of the hippies proved to be, is a fraud.

I agree.

The internet has blowed up with how super awesome Bill Walton was

Because it was entertaining. It was a one off thing, and that makes it great.

He was still better than Ed Farmer.

Yeah as a one-off it was entertaining.

Sox need as many gimmicks as they can get to drum up interest.
