He is going to miss the rest of the season because he is resting at home after a medical procedure, according to James Fegan. Best wishes to Ed, but he needs to retire bad. |

I don't know if I listened to a single Sox game on the radio this year |

I listened in the beginning of the year and he sounded awful. I avoided the radio the rest of the year. Please get competent radio guy. |

I'd rather have Masur back with the Cubs than Cackling Zach. If Farmer is too sick to do a full season, then just let him go and get a real play-by-play man again. Didn't WGN have serious reservations about two ex-jocks doing all the play-by-play? |

We need Dave Wills to come back north and take his job |

He's incoherent half the time. I think they need to move him out to pasture. |

Yeah, give him some do-nothing team ambassador job or something. I wasn't around for Farmer as the color man to John Rooney (I mean, I was alive, I just didn't listen to Sox radio at the time), but as a lead guy he's awful. I wonder how many guys around the broadcast booths have racked up almost 30 years with a team without being beloved as a broadcasting institution nor even all that well-liked by the fanbase. Hawk and Farmer are the only two I can really think of. |

Hawk and Farmer are the only two I can really think of. Rooney and Farmer were the best. That is largely because Rooney is one of the best radio guys of this generation, and Farmer was the color man. It was also 15-20 years ago when Farmer was (presumably) healthier and more with it. He is terrible as a PbP guy, and really always has been. DJ, dry as he may be, is fine as a color guy.Definitely time to move on from Farmio. Give him a swan song like Hawk and let him call Sunday home games or something like that, but he is just awful on the radio at this point. I delivered pizzas for a while when I was out of work earlier this summer and listened to MANY Sox games. Farmer was absolutely brutal 90% of the time. Most Sox fans love Hawk. A lot of Cubs fans like Hawk. Real baseball fans that don't like Hawk generally appreciate what a character he was, and that for all his faults he was good for the game. Guys like Hawk are all but GONE basically, and what you have left are cookie cutter, Sabr-nerd, vanilla homers like Len Kasper across MLB. |

Hopefully when the Ray's move to Montreal the White Sox can convince him to come back north. |

Hopefully when the Ray's move to Montreal the White Sox can convince him to come back north. I don't think it would take convincing. He is a dyed in the wool Sox fan. I think he would move today if they simply asked. Still, Tampa PBP has to be a pretty sweet gig. Beautiful weather. No expectations. Lots of Chicago enclaves and friends always coming down to vacation. |

I think I've listened to three, maybe four Sox games on the radio since they left 670, and none of them when they were on 890. They belong on the Score. |
