Quintana= :lol:

Putting the dig at the Cub aside for a second, while Sox fans seem overly joyed with trading players "they could never get to the world series with", I don't think those teams are unhappy with those trades today.

It was really important for the Sox to wear the collared shirts that day and to have Drake LaRietta in the dugout.

Some Sox fans, and most of them are dopes. Nobody should have been happy that the team felt the need to trade Chris Sale.

I really don't care about Adam Eaton. He was a nice player here, but not a star.

I understand why it happened, but no....not happy about it. I was royally pissed about it.

The front office couldn't build a winning team around the most dominant pitcher in the league. That's as big a failure as you could be. They fucking suck.

It's a little bit surprising Eaton hasn't blown a game with a bonehead play.....yet!

I think the Sox won the Eaton trade by any measure. I wouldn't attribute this World Series appearance to his presence on the Nationals.

This is also the first season he has stayed healthy enough to play 100+ games with the Nats.

Well yeah. He figured out after 20 years of baseball you don't have to run into walls when the ball is 10 rows back and there IS a way to hit 1st base in stride.

Yeah I agree.

I would love to give the Sox a L here....but there is no way. The Sale and Eaton situations are completely different.

attribute...I mean, any offensive player would be fairly far down the attribution list right now

It would be difficult to make a case a guy they gave 650 AB to is not integral to the team outcome.

The Nationals got the guy they thought they were getting, but for injuries. His numbers are remarkably steady through the years. I doubt they are lamenting the trade today, which is one of my points.

Do you think the White Sox are lamenting the trade and wishing Adam Eaton was their starting right fielder for 2020?

I believe there have been clubhouse issues wherever he's gone. Of course, if you win a World Series nobody cares about that except the guys who have to deal with him on a daily basis. I'm fairly certain the White Sox are pleased with the way that deal turned out. I know I am. If Washington is happy too, then it was a good deal all around.

I think the Sox won both trades. Another year or two of Sale on a bad team wasn’t going to mean anything. The Red Sox were ready to win now and got their championship with Sale still being effective which looks like may be ending . Moncada looks to have figured something out . I’d be happy with the results of both those trades if I’m a Sox fan.

It's strange how people judge the trades based on wins and losses when it was clearly about building for the future.

The White Sox could have traded Southpaw instead of Sale to the Boston Red Sox and they were going to win more games.

If you get a player you can build around for a potential title run of your own down the line then you "won" the trade even if the other side did well too.

Sale is the best pitcher in 120 years of your franchise. He was in his prime and had a few cheap years left. Tough to win that trade.

If the Sox win a World Series in the next few years with Moncada and/or Kopech and/or Basabe being key contributors, I'd say at the very least the Sox broke even on the trade. If they win two WS, Sox win the trade.

They've won 3 in 120 years. I don't expect 2 in the next 5.

It's certainly a failure to not be able to build a team around him but I don't think trades should be viewed without taking into account where the teams are.

If records are what matters, then the Cubs dominated the Quintana trade.

Waves and waves of talent

But I mean really, anything is possible. I highly doubt the Sox win two as well, but you never know. I'm sure heading into the 2010 season, SF fans didn't think the Giants were going to win three over the next five seasons.

A person of Adam Eaton's numbers and abilities would be a perfect fit for the Sox in 20. RF with good defense, hits left, high OBP and reasonable K, can steal a base and hit anywhere in the lineup.

No I don't think they are, which I wrote in my original post. However, they are desperately looking for someone to fill that position in 20 who will most likely cost more and produce less.

They need a frontline starter way more than they need a RF and this Eaton netted them one. I also wouldn't bury Lopez at all yet, there's a lot to love about him.

The trades were good. The Sox got good players out of them, it looked really dicey there for a while but in the end they got what they needed in return for Sale, Eaton and Quintana.

Post subject:  Re: Sale=WS, Eaton=WS...

That said they aren't going to win the World Series with this core and probably wont even come close. The trades were good but the rebuild fell flat due to terrible drafting and even worse Intl free agency (aside from Robert, but he doesn't really count). The one guy they did miraculously find they dealt for James Shields.

Its a half finished job. They got a lot of frontline super quality talent but in the end they feel one man short even in that department. Where they have really failed is in developing anyone who can step in at RF, the bullpen or starting rotation. You would think four years of massive draft pools and selling off anyone and everyone they'd be two or three deep at most positions with guys that are at least intriguing, but they aren't. Basically the only players they've developed are ludicrously talented studs like Moncada or Giolito that by sheer god-given ability have found big time major league success. Everyone else has been an outright failure or got dealt away.
