That's a pretty good, sad, and eye opening read.

His first wife sounds like a BlTCH though.

She stages an intervention to get him to go to rehab, and then when he does and continues getting the help he needs she files for divorce.

Definitely.

Fortunately , Jerry turned lemons into lemonade and later had the doctor work on Luol Deng.

Was surprised to hear that. Hell of a time to leave.

He seems to be doing well these days, though.

So turns out the same Doc was the target of another malpractice lawsuit for ANOTHER concurrent surgery that left one of his patients paralyzed. After being sued by Jenk and the other woman here's what he had to say:
Now, attorneys for three of Wood’s patients say that : will play a prominent role in their malpractice lawsuits against the surgeon, including one filed by Meng and another by former Red Sox pitcher Bobby Jenks, who blames Wood for what he alleges was a botched back surgery in 2011 that ended his career.

The handful of orthopedic surgeons best known for double-booking cases were reluctant to be interviewed, though Wood spoke briefly to a Spotlight reporter in a Boston courtroom after a hearing on one of his malpractice cases.

“Our hospital is being crucified for something that happens at hospitals across the globe,” Wood said. “Everyone in America has done it at some time.”
Sounds evil.

Bobby Jenks was a key part of the 2005 world champion White Sox. By 2010, his effectiveness as a closer fell off and he signed with the Boston Red Sox for the 2011 season. He’d pitch in only 19 games that year, suffer a back injury and would never pitch again.

In the year or so after that, we heard that Jenks was arrested for driving under the influence. And then we heard that his back surgery was botched, and his baseball career was over. Then, after years of silence, we learned last spring that Jenks won $5.1 million in a medical malpractice suit against the doctor who performed his surgery.

We did not, however, know all the details until Bobby Jenks wrote about them at the Players’ Tribune this morning. This is must-click link stuff, folks.

Jenks talks about how a seemingly innocuous pitch to Jorge Posada in an early-season Red Sox-Yankees game in 2011 was the last pitch he’d ever throw. He talks about the presumably simple surgery that would supposedly get him back on the field. And then the scary complications in which he almost died due to leaking spinal fluid resulting from the botched surgery. Then, after using painkillers to deal with back pain, Jenks’ fell into drug addiction, all of which culminated in him finding himself half-naked and crazed in a car that didn’t belong to him with police and rescue workers surrounding him.

Jenks got clean but his wife left him. And then he mounted a multi-year lawsuit during which he learned that the reason his back surgery was screwed up was because the surgeon was performing two surgeries at one time, which is an apparently common practice called “concurrent surgery,” that sounds like it totally should NOT be a common practice.

Yet Jenks has survived. He’s been sober for over seven years and he seems to be in a good place. But boy did he have to go through something harrowing to get there. Definitely take the time to read it.

Eh, a bitch would have divorced him and wouldn't give a shit if he got help. It's possible she saved his life by getting him into rehab.

Eh, a patriot would have divorced him and wouldn't give a shit if he got help. It's possible she saved his life by getting him into rehab.
They way he wrote it was that he did the 30 days, signed up for 30 days more, and she served him during that time. If thats the case, total Bbitch move on her part. Wait the couple weeks til he's done.

But regardless, he is LUCKY to have survived and kudos for him getting his life back together.

I don't know if Bobby is coming completely clean with his drug and alcohol history before the back injury but this story isn't a full biography.

5.1 million seems light if you are arguing that but for the surgery he would pitch again.

His life story is even more complicated and interesting. I seem to recall him being raised white nationalists or something like that.

He was a success story and seemed like a good guy. Glad to see he got his health and didn't have the common story of bankruptcy added to his other problems.

2005!

It sounds like the hospital and doctor have prior experience defending concurrent surgeries. Might be why he settled for less - I guess there's a well used legal defense playbook for such cases.

good for him. Hard to believe that no Sox fan knew about this until now. Dude was a World Series hero.

Relievers dont last long anyway these days. 6, 7 years is about the shelf life of a reliever. He had that, and it included a title.

Today on the anniversary of the Chicago White Sox championship, we feel it is a perfect time to announce that World Series hero Bobby Jenks has been named new Field Manager of the Windy City ThunderBolts!

See Bobby's Bolts on Opening Night, Thursday, May 9th at Crestwood's Ozinga Field.
Quote:
The Windy City ThunderBolts are excited to announce that former Chicago White Sox all-star Bobby Jenks has been named the 20th Field Manager in franchise history.

“Please join me in welcoming Bobby back to the Windy City as he pursues another championship for the South Side,” said team owner Brian Kahn.

This is the second professional managerial job for Jenks, who won the Pioneer League championship in 2022 as the skipper of the Grand Junction Rockies. That season, the Rockies finished with a 62-33 record as Jenks was named Pioneer League Manager of the Year. His association with Grand Junction began in 2021, when he was their Pitching Coach. He had also previously worked as a roving pitching instructor in the White Sox’ organization.

Jenks has a name that will be familiar on the South Side of Chicago. He played six of his seven Major League seasons for the White Sox (2005-2010) and was a two-time all-star (’06 & ’07). As a rookie in 2005, he appeared in every game for the White Sox in the World Series, collecting two saves. He recorded the final three outs of game four, ending the Sox’ 88-year World Series drought.

He pitched in 329 games overall in a White Sox uniform and finished his career with 173 saves – second on the Sox’ all-time list. In 341.2 innings, he compiled a total ERA of 3.40 and in 2007, he set a Major League record by retiring 41 consecutive batters.

“Putting aside his popularity on the South Side of Chicago, in three short years coaching, Bobby has shown to be a great mentor both on and off the field,” said General Manager Mike VerSchave. “His experience pitching at the highest level, in the highest pressure situations will be invaluable in molding our pitching staff. His title run in the Pioneer League shows his ability to put together a competitive team as well as run a fantastic clubhouse that will serve him well in our league.”

Jenks joins the ThunderBolts after spending the 2023 season as the Pitching Coach for the Princeton WhistlePigs of the Appalachian League, a collegiate wood bat league in collaboration with Major League Baseball.

Jenks will make his debut as ThunderBolts manager on May 9, when the Bolts play host to the Evansville Otters on Opening Night at Ozinga Field.
