Remind him that he's got guaranteed money for two years of vacation, one of which will be spent on 35th St., unless he wants to quit & save Jerry's money.

And then I'd move Hahn to the bench.

I'd give Ricky a shot this year and see what he does with some real talent.

If not, hire back Ozzie.

Nope. He let that weasel, Cora, get away with that bullshit and he was the boss in the dugout. That shows him to be a weak assed manager. Too many good managers around other than that guy.

I like managers who win. I'm sure you feel the same way. Either way Renteria has to go.

I think Renteria should be given a chance to prove himself this season. He got the talent to win. He didn't have that before. I do not think he is a good game manager but I do think that the ability to relate and coach Hispanic guys is very important so I am willing to wait and see how he does.

No problem giving him a year to prove himself.

I assumed Omar Vizquel was the next in line.. he's paid his dues in the minors.

He left the organization. It was a mutual decision supposedly when it was made??

Prove that he is actually a AAA manager?

Yesterday McNeil and Shep had John Morosi on to talk about the Astros struggles. He pretty much said Luhnow was widely regarded as a complete douche (albeit a successful douche) and likely will not work again.

I think you're correct, though.....Astros seem to be the best at scouting and drafting. I certainly wouldn't complain at all of if Luhnow was GM.

Hinch? I'm in the camp of managers can cast you a good amount but won't win you much. He got out-managed in the 2019 world series.

too toxic to hire as gm

maybe a consultant on the draft and organizational theory to reestablish his credibility.

He might be. I just think that baseball is a lot more than what to do in certain situations and clearly with all of the Hispanic players on this team, having a guy like Renteria might be an advantage? I don't know and maybe I'm overestimating this "advantage". But I think that Renteria deserves a shot with a good team which the Sox should be this season.

Obviously you can't fire him today, but he has no idea how to handle a pitching staff, and he keeps bunting in an era where it doesn't matter.

Did you see the guys the Sox were trotting out there over the last couple of seasons? And the arms he had to summon from the bullpen? 75% of them were pure shit. Connie Mack, Joe Maddon, or Sparky Anderson would have done no better with that crop of arms.

He had Collins up here, and trotted him out there 1-2 times a week. I get some of the stuff he was working with, but that was botched.

Sandberg always struck me as a dipshit, I think Omar will be a real good skipper.

I am unironically 100% for this.

My favorite Ozzie managerial moment was up in skydome where the sox entered the top of the 9th down 1-0 or 2-1 after someone like Ricky Romero dazzled for ~8 innings. Then one of those big armed upper 90s power slider closers comes in for the 9th (I keep wanting to think it was Billy Koch but I don't think it was him. someone of that ilk tho) and right away he's locked in painting the corners at ~97-99 with his fastball and dropping a ~91-92mph "fuck you" slider that's either generating swing and misses or grabbing enough plate to be called a strike low and away from RH batters. 1-2-3 pitches for the first strikeout. 1-2-3 pitches for the second strikeout. down to their last out, after the guy gets ahead 0-1 or 0-2 on a really nice "fuck you" pitch Ozzie runs out of the dugout to argue balls and strikes with the umpire. he didn't have any argument whatsoever, but by riding the umpire hard and long enough to get ejected, he manages to mess up the closer's rhythm and then he proceeds to lose that batter to a walk and then the next guy up jacks a 2R HR and the sox hold on to win by 1 run.

That little thing right there is something you can't teach; it's instinctive brilliance that Ozzie often had in spades. Plus Ozzie had the coolest suspension ever: being suspended for praising a foreign dictator. Really all he said was that you gotta give Fidel Castro some props for staying alive so long with the USA/most-of-the-world gunning for him, but hey in the end he got paid something like ~16mil to not manage the Marlins and once boasted that he used that money to buy a yacht and sail around the Mediterranean Sea. Brilliant guy. Expos raised. He can always manage my team.

I tend to agree except when you look at the weakness of that batting order, he was trying to get runs home anyway he could. We had the weakest bottom of the order in all of baseball.
