Down to .268 and falling. Guy has great power. Lot of holes in his swing.

No he doesn't have a lot of holes in his swing. Right now, the guys I am worrying about are Robert and Mazur.

I thought this was a post about avoid injury to Eloy out in LF.

Wsox have come up with a revolutionary uniform to protect Eloy from injury on the outfield :

You are 100% correct Phil. I wonder if the Cubs would trade Quintana back to us out of mercy

They will be forced to move him to DH by next year.

I saw it suggested that the Sox should just have Eloy play LF like Carlos Lee. Don't try too hard for fly balls and just handle grounders.

Probably a good idea.

He's smart and a hard worker. He'll figure it out enough to make himself an acceptably below average LF, which, by the way, is arguably the least important defensive position on the field.

I thought you were going to end the sentence with "which, by the way, is what the Cubs did with Schwarber."

In all seriousness, this is absolutely true.

Definitely. Be a little below average and don't hurt yourself are goals he can realize.

I got a kid on my team who plays OF like Eloy. When the ball is hit to her, you dont really hope for an out, you just hope nobody gets hurt.

Sweet kid.

I guess the questions becomes, another year of EE vs another option in LF and Eloy at DH. Where does Vaughn figure in all this? I just don't see Jose sitting the bench or being traded.

I can guarantee you Jose is the opening day 1B, Eloy is the LF and Vaughn is in the minors, no higher than AA (and possibly A+ for a brief stint).

I agree with you. The kid is an athlete and just needs to be coached and coached HARD on how to play left field. Obviously, all the guy had done earlier in life was mash the ball. The Cuban players who are good are coached in all aspects of the game. Look at Robert. Look at Moncada. When I was coaching travel ball, our team played a couple of teams from Cuba and those kids although smaller than we were, were very skilled for their age and their coaches were good also(not so good in pitching, however).

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that Jimenez didn't receive this sort of coaching and training. It would be interesting to hear his history. I know that he developed a relationship early on with Encarnacion but I'd say that was mainly focused on hitting, right?

I would hope that the Sox will assign an outfield instructor to work with Eloy. He is supposed to be a hard worker like you say. Its not hard to play left field but he absolutely needs to improve not only to help the team but also make his way to become an excellent major league player. Right now, he is a definite liability out there.

He should be 100 percent DH. Or put him on first base. We've already seen that OF is too much of a risk. He already injured himself last year running straight into the fence and also got hurt last year.

It kind of depends whether they have EE return I think. I would say a lot will depend upon what kind of spring training Vaughn has. My guess is that they will start Vaughn in 2A or 3A and depending on his progress, move him up to the big club next year where he will DH and play first with Jose.

Another thing. Everyone has bagged on this guy, but Burger is still a prospect and I don't think that they are done with the possibility of his coming up when healthy. They've got another guy who hits left handed(forget the kid's name right now) and he is a good first baseman who hits with power.

Yes. That's the kid. Thanks. He was a 2nd round pick I think.

Nah. Maybe he will have a DH in his future but 1B is not a cinch position to play. Left field is the easiest position in baseball to play and for a kid this athletic, all he needs is coaching to play it decently.

Burger is another DH. He has a puss arm. Terrible draft pick.
