Just traded to the Giants.

Why was this guy not even given a look before being traded? I was really was optimistic about him.

Yup. He was DFA'd when Rodon came back and nobody offered anything for him. Sox were done with him then, so at least got some money for him. He's 23, been hurt, and posted a .672 OPS in the minors. Maybe he will figure something out with the change of scenery but the Sox are really no worse off with losing this guy. Oh well.

He's almost 24, and he didn't appear to be close to breaking into the majors. I think he just timed out.

I think he can play and will be a decent fourth outfielder. The problem for the Sox was he had limited options. I think they let him go as a courtesy.

If he can really play, how does he not beat out Nicky Steaks foe ghe 4/5 OF spot?

The Giants are not particularly good, so by trading him there he has an outside chance of making the roster late in the year. They just traded Billy Hamilton who was stuck in minor league camp, so they needed another OF to be a camp bat.

He's the kind of guy who would be starting for the Sox over the last decade.

He isn't ready for the majors. In fact, he is probably not ready for AAA. This means his earliest ETA is 2022.

He has skills. I wouldn't be surprised if he was one these guys that breaks in at 27-28 and sticks.
