LaRussa hasn't managed in ten years. Imagine a 17 or 18 year old who doesn't know anything about him listening to the Score yesterday. He probably thinks that LaRussa was a guy who stood in front of a clubhouse blocking Jackie Robinson from entering.

LaRussa can pull a Phil Jackson and just pull out one of his many championship rings whenever there is a question about whether he knows what he is doing.

It's tough to imagine a 17/18 year old listening to the Score

shots fired at Sam Fells

It was unusual even back then and Fells was listening in his early teens

Unless you're in a car, who even here regularly listens to the Score? It's probably been a year since I've turned the station on when I'm in at home or in my office.

Tim Anderson has won nothing. It's pretty crazy that there is a serious story line that Tony LaRussa who has 3 World Series rings needs to change his process to suit Tim Anderson.

I think LaRussa and Tim will be fine but Tim Anderson is the one of the best players in baseball. Yes, it's important the manager gets along with him.

I think LaRussa is smart enough to understand that because he has a couple of the best pure hitters in all of baseball on the roster, he will do what he needs to do to make things work in the clubhouse.

It’ll be tough to put his apparent KKK past to the side but yeah I think he’ll refrain from burning crosses in the locker room.

Like I said, I don't ever remember any beefs between LaRussa and players, particularly not anything informed by racial animus or the so-called "cultural differences" between U.S. baseball and Latino players.

Me neither. And I'm sure he managed the A's different than he managed the Sox in the 70s. Same can be said of the A's to the Cards in the 00s.

And as it was stated here yesterday, LaRussa learned Spanish later in his career to help communicate better between the pitchers and Molina. If he really thought THE LATINS were subhuman, he wouldn't have cared to learn their language. I doubt he went thru all of that effort just to insult them in their native tongue.

Is that true? I thought he might have spoken it with his mother who is/was Spanish. Anyway, I've heard him claim that Molina is the greatest/most important player he ever managed.

“Spanish was my first language,” said La Russa, whose mother spoke Spanish and his father both Spanish and Italian. “I had to learn English to go to school. I was raised in a Latin American, Italian American community with a bunch of people who really loved baseball.”1 La Russa has been enshrined in both the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame and the Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum Hall of Fame.

yes this is correct. he is a proud hispanic and when he was in chicago, he use to be part of the Puerto Rican parade or whatever they called it back in the 70s/80s. Murph use to point this out too back in the day.

It's pretty presumptive to assume that they will not get along, which is what has been put out as a storyline. There seems to be an idea that if LaRussa doesn't embrace bat flips and yelling then it's bad for Anderson. Tim was thrown out of a big game last year for running his mouth. He started a brawl with the Royals and was suspended for his antics the year before. It might not necessarily be bad to have perspective from someone who has won.

Tim Anderson reminds me of a guy who hates all white people. He probably looks at LaRussa as just another whitey he has to work with to get thru the day. He probably does not give a shit pro or con about LaRussa. As long as he can play baseball the way he wants, it'll be fine. I dont think LaRussa will be doing anything to mess up Anderson's routine.
