https://www.robertfeder.com/2020/11/04/ ... io-rights/ Interesting that they turned down going to 780. 1000's signal is much worse. |

At least it won't pre-empt J-Hood all summer like it used to when he was on evenings last time they had the Sox. |

It will be nice to have them back on a sports talker. They felt buried on WLS and WGN. |

WLS would have made sense if Cumulus had followed through with their plans to freshen up the station. They never did, the Sox never fit, and then they went bankrupt and coughed up the contract. The Sox belong on 670. |

You're not wrong about the signal. 670, 720, and 780 come in great everywhere, maybe they're all 50,000 watts. 1000 is touch and go, especially at distance. I remember I could tune into it in Champaign, but there was always a fair amount of static. |

780 was just going to hold it until 670 can divest the Cubs contract. The way the White Sox originally got forced to WLS. There was no way the White Sox were going to put up with that, especially minimal pre/postgame and still being a second priority. |

You'll always figure it out. The only reason you listen to the SOX is when you're in the car. You got enough time to figure it out. Might take 5 seconds if you don't know initially. |

I remember I could tune into it in Champaign, but there was always a fair amount of static. 780 recently dropped to ~40kW because CBS (or Entercom, forget which) sold the land the stick was on and twinned it with 670, so they both couldn't be at 50,000 anymore. There was no way the White Sox were going to put up with that, especially minimal pre/postgame and still being a second priority. Fair point. I've noticed and you surely have too that pre/post on the Score was much more extensive for the Sox than it has been for the Cubs, and postgames on WGN were much more extensive as well. I think that was an editorial decision on the part of Kenney and the Cubs, to get rid of those meandering Dave Kaplan/Jim Memolo call-in postgame shows and just hit the highlights, the press conference, and get out of there. But as someone who was not a Sox fan but would keep 670 on out of habit, I enjoyed Rongey's postgame on a meta level, what with the apologism and the bad callers and Rongey's general put-upon demeanor. Generally, I think the more baseball programming, the better. No good reason to hustle out the door so you can throw it to CBS Sports Radio, other than you're broke. I would not be surprised to see 780 wind up with the Blackhawks again, since it sounds like Nexstar wants to get out of that commitment as well. I guess they spent too much money on NEWS NATION!!! to pay Chris Boden. The Hawks may have to go back to being brokered programming, which Entercom could use. |

I think the other part was that ZZ was with the team at the ballpark. Rongey got to take more of a break during the game. Plus ZZ had something like 17 sponsor reads to do in the post game. The best thing to do with 7pm starts is to go straight to Les at 1045ish, and either go to CBS Sports Radio at 3am or replay LoHo from 3-5a. |

Might take 5 seconds if you don't know initially. It's not a question of finding them. I don't have cable or a streaming service where I can get their games, so I'm always listening on the radio. They just felt so cut off from the rest of the sports world on WGN. It would be nice to have some interplay between the broadcast and actual sports talk. |

I could see the Blackhaws go to 560 if it's a brokering situation, weren't they there once before? |

EDIT: '81 to '85 they were on WIND, back when I think it was an MOR station, not the insanely right-wing outlet it is today. |

Why would Les give up that valuable 3am-5am real estate? He's done many a marathon night of programming in his history and he'd surely do it again I mean, if he's gonna be up and downtown at 3am regardless you might as well stay til 5 and keep that live lead in to mully & haugh at 5 (or well, the mully & haugh "pregame" at 5 before the proper show at 5:30) |

Pretty much meaningless to White Sox fans who work, or worked for a living listening wise. Available on mlb app or Sirius. Sad, though now Espn 1000 White Sox talk will now be tainted. Chicago will be turning it off, like they do with the Score's fake Cubs talk. |

None of the Sox fans--Hood and Carmen?--are the kiss-ass types. Plus, Bernstein and Parkinson have issues that get in the way of sports talk. |

I wonder if JR would be willing to do a Carmen and Silvy, second bite at the apple interview? Would be great if they could all just laugh about it now. |
