I never thought I'd see the day where the White Sox give a player the most money ever paid for his position.

Someone pinch me and wake me up as this just can't be real life.

Spend that machado money.

In all fairness, it’s not like Colomè was bad, but I had zero confidence in him. It’ll be tough to get a major upgrade in performance but I’d think you have way more confidence now.

Who was the last closer the Sox signed from the As? Hopefully this is a better signing.

No, you're wrong, it's not the most ever.

You tell me. From what I understand, no closer has ever gotten $54 million for 4 years of playing baseball.

It seems like a luxury buy to me. The Sox always seem to spend on back end of the bullpen though. It will be hard to improve on what Colome did the past few years, but I guess they were scared of the declining strikeouts. I would guess this is the official end of all hope of Bauer. I would love to see them go after Odorizzi and Cruz. Knee cap the only other division contender.

Its for 3-39, thats 13 per.. That 4th year could be paid a million a year for 13 years.

So no, 13 million a year isn't the most ever. Unfortunately Craig Kimbrel will make more than that this year. He signed 3-43

Chapman makes 19 a year

Jansen has a 5-80$

He gets the last year no matter what. So, he gets 13.5 million a year for 4 years. Has any player ever gotten 13.5 million a year for 4 years of playing baseball?

13 x 3 = 39

That fourth year will be paid out over an extended period of time.

Jansen has 16 per for 5 years.

It is paid out over an extended period of time if they cut him.

So, he either gets $54 million over 4 years of playing, or $54 million over 3 years of playing but he has to wait a little longer for that extra $15 million that he gets for sitting at home or playing for another team.

If you are counting on him being cut after year 3 then it's $54/3 or $18 million a year.

Hendriks can go more than one inning when needed. Colome was horrible if you asked him for anything more than three outs or brought him in with runners on.

but yes, its an incremental improvement during the regular season. I think it is a bigger impact for playoffs, which is the expectation we have to have now

Jansen got 5 years 80 million. Nothing wrong with the signing just a bullshit narrative about highest paid. Of course if he is dog shit then he would tie Jansen for average per season with 18 for 3. Still lower than the 86 for 5 Chapman signed a few years back.

JR somehow makes players think that deferred money is to their advantage.

JR loves deferred money contracts and it isn't because he gets happiness from seeing his players earn money.
