There will never be any question the Sox won the trade, whether it's a great or merely an average trade is the better question. |

That's not even the worst White Sox move of the last 10 years. |

The biggest improvement in Cease this year has been the lack of hard contact. Last season it seemed like his ERA was unsustainable as he kept giving up rockets that went right to defenders. That's why his FIP was an insane 6+ while his ERA was in the 3s for most of the season. We're not seeing that this year. Contact off of him is much softer, which tells us that his success this season is far more sustainable. His FIP right now is 3.26 and next to a 2.98 ERA, that is very sustainable. |

His FIP right now is 3.26 and next to a 2.98 ERA, that is very sustainable. Uh, I'm pretty sure that's not even remotely close to how FIP works. I don't think exit velocity has anything to do with FIP. FIP is primarily based on BB, K, and HR numbers. The reason why Cease had a crazy high FIP last year is that he essentially had a 1:1 BB/K ratio, and he was giving out HRs like candy on Halloween. His BB numbers are down somewhat, but his K rate has exploded. Also he's keeping the ball in the yard. That's why his FIP is better this year. It's always going to be rough walking a batter every other inning like he does, but his stuff plays so well to K's that he can probably get away with it, especially if he limits HRs like he has. If he ever reduced his BB rate to something more along league average, look the fuck out because he'll be getting annual Cy Young consideration. |

Starting to consider the Cubs may have won it because they don't have anyone left from the trade on their team and didn't waste years trying to compete thinking Eloy and Cease would be cornerstones or something. |
