My biggest fear is this team cruises into the playoffs,

meets up with TB who have home field (were 2-1 against them at home)

and the rays smoke us off of the field the same way the mariners did in 2000.

I love the term but hate Goff, the case can be made that these pale hose are bumslayers,

they dominate at home, are over 500 on the road but beating on the Indians, Rangers, Twins, Cubs and Orioles doesnt get you the trophy.

Split W L RS RA W-L%
BAL 7 0 45 16 1.000

this is our main concern, dude

There's no "a case can be made". They most definitely are bumslayers. No Sox fan will argue that particular point. The argument is does it mean something or nothing, all this bumslaying.

The Sox haven't had their full team the entire year. Look at Tampa Bay's lineup. Look at their starting rotation. Now compare it to the White Sox. I don't see how anyone could think that's a favorable matchup for Tampa.

The Yankees are a different story. That's a tough lineup to go through. There are a lot of potential homeruns sitting there. But Yankee pitching is suspect. Their bullpen is definitely terrible. For all my bitching about the Sox pen, I know how much better it is.

We'll see what happens in October.

Post subject:  Re: Are the whitesox Bumslayers

i think a lot of the teams at the top of any division are bumslayers because the MLB is so top-heavy and there are a ton of basement dwellers to feed and get fat off of. the AL East seems to be the only division that has the "group of death" stigma attached.

plenty of bumslayer teams have won the WS.

They are but it doesn't matter once the playoffs start.

The Cubs bumslayed their way to a WS title, they all count the same.

Yup. And the AL playoffs are going to be fantastic baseball. I think this weekend’s series with the Yanks is what we could hope to see. Just enjoy competitive baseball.

They certainly all count, but an 11-1 run is much different than what happened in October 2016. It's undeniable.

Outside of a few series, the Sox have definitely been bumslayers. We'll see what happens in October. All teams are back at 0-0 once the regular season is over. Regardless of opponent, a first round exit would be a huge failure for this team. I can live with an ALCS loss. Playing in the World Series (win or lose) would be a massive success.

Yeah anyone can get hot for a few weeks. Its the reason almost no one outside of Sox fans think the 05 Sox were a great World Series winner.

Yeah, you're right. It's not like they won 99 games and lead the division wire-to-wire before sweeping the defending champions who had themselves swept the great St. Louis Cardinals out of the previous World Series.

Google World Series winners ranked. I guarantee it is not all Cubs fans making the list.

I think being one of five wire-to-wire WS winners in the sport’s history - while recording the most dominant run in playoff history - oughta put you in the conversation for ‘great World Series winners.’

Well, you can't argue with that research!

'05 Sox were also the first AL team to go wire to wire and sweep the World Series since the Babe Ruth Yankees. It's not like they lost two WS games at home, and then needed their opponent to kick the ball around in order to make it to a Game 7....

I was shocked bleacher report had them at #3 of greatest World Series champions in the past 20 years. And I think MLB had them at #6.

ESPN.com wrote:
By our series leverage index -- which measures how tight the World Series was -- this ranks just 56th all time. But the games themselves were outrageously good. By our game leverage index, this was the tightest collection of World Series games ever. Every game was either tied or within one run in the eighth inning or later. Every White Sox starter went at least seven innings. Compare that to the seven-game series between the Cubs and Cleveland in 2016, in which no starting pitcher went seven. The White Sox's 11-1 postseason record-- which matches the 1998 Yankees as the best of all time in the Wild Card era-- ended a World Series drought that was two years longer than the Red Sox's had been.

Why are we conflating greatness with ‘memorable to a bunch of fucking nerds who don’t pay attention to the game?’

Frank no one cares they went 11-1. The 96 Bulls are not the 10th best team in NBA history because they went 15-3.
