Noon clincher on a Thursday, but with zero excitement. Hope they look the part today.

After that shitfuck two games in Detroit, it would serve them right to win Game 1, and have to hold off on the real partying until after Game 2.

Hopefully once they clinch, they start getting sharp for the playoffs and can flip the switch. Nothing outside of an 11-1 run would surprise me with this team. From 0-3 in the DS, to being crowned WS Champs, and anything in between. I have no idea what to expect in two weeks.

“There’s a popular perception, the players talk about it all the time,” La Russa said. “You get into the division champs thing over six months, if you get bounced that first series, it’s to a lot of people -- fans, media -- the season wasn’t anything because you lost right away.

“Players feel more pressure in the Division Series then they do in the Championship Series and the World Series. If you lose, then [In the ALDS] to many people it’s wasted.”
He's not wrong. I don't know if I would call the season a waste, but it would be an extreme disappointment if the Sox were to get bounced in round 1 again.

The 2000 team felt like a failure for the way it ended. A first round exit is a failure.

2000 had Jim Parque as the Game 1 starter.

Cease and Gliolito at #3/#4 in the playoffs are better than any starter the Sox had on that 2000 club.

They also lead the American League in wins, and had to beat a 90 win Cleveland team on an multi-year division streak to win the crown. So they didn't have the luxury of coasting like this team did. Injuries and bad luck didn't allow them to set their rotation.

When you win 95 games and get swept by the wild card team it's a disappointment and taints the season is all.

No way. This team has been way too ouchy this year. You can't risk someone getting hurt because they're trying to run around the bases while half in the bag.

Should they win game 1, you have an alcohol free celebration, enjoy a break, and a meal. Then let the beer showers begin after game 2 win or lose.

The 2000 Sox clinched on September 24th and had 7 games left. Should the Sox win a game today, they will clinch with 9 or 10 games left.

Sox put out what is likely their ALDS Game 1 line-up and it torches a very good starter

I think you have some calculated ideas based on what you've seen for 3+ months. If not, that's either weird or willfully ignorant.

Would it surprise you to see the Sox go down 0-3 in the ALDS? (ME; No)
Would it surprise you to see the Sox sweep the ALDS? (ME; Mildly). Win the ALDS in 4 or 5? (ME; NO)
Would it surprise you to see the Sox win the ALCS? (ME; No) Lose the ALCS? (ME; No)
Would it surprise you to see the Sox win the WS? (ME; mildly). Lose the WS? (Me; No)

That's what I mean by I have no idea what to expect. Any and all of those outcomes are possible and only a select few would be really shocking.

As long as Lopez can keep them off the board here, agree.
