What if the Sox still had Rowand? |

And I wouldn't call anything this year a "White Flag" trade unless somehow the Sox get within 3.5 games of first when they do it. |

Maybe I'm missing some of the talent that you're talking about, but they had Pods in LF (I'm ok with that), Terrero in CF, and A.Gonzalez in RF. That's a horrible OF. 3B Fields, SS Uribe, 2B Iguchi, and 1B Konerko with AJ catching and Thome at DH. I'm glad Fields is playing, but he's still learing. Uribe sucks. Iguchi and Konerko are struggling...Thome has been ok, but even he has been probably below his standards. Yeah, they should be hitting better, no doubt, but they are fielding a bad offensive team right now. |

Brandon McCarthy for Alfonso Soriano was a Jay Mariotti invention. There was no way in hell that Wash would have made that trade one for one. |

Keep in mind guys. Washington ended up not trading Soriano at all. They got nothing. They probably refused alot of offers. I'll bet they thought they had a chance to resign him until the Cubs threw all that money at him. Otherwise they would have got something. |

It makes sense that if Buehrle wants to be a Sock he'd want to get traded so they'll have a better team when resigns for 2008, of course it's never that simple. |

rowand and soriano not being on the sox roster last year is not what caused them to miss the playoffs. it was piss poor starting pitching, plain and simple. all this rowand love...never have a seen such a mediocre player become such a revered figure in this town. rowand is a good player, but he'll never make an allstar team, he repeatedly airmailed the cutoff man trying to nail guys at the plate who were going to be safe by a mile anyway, and he is not a good baserunner. |

You couldn't be more right about the problems of last year. For more evidence of mediocore player getting undeserved credit look no further than the '85 bears. |

im even willing to overlook some of that bears love. not to say that the sox in 05 werent special, but the bears really were something special. they were probably the best team in the super bowl era. the sox kicked ass, but they were hardly one of the best baseball teams ever |

the sox kicked ass, but they were hardly one of the best baseball teams ever Interesting point...I have been watching baseball since the mid 80s and I rank the 05 Sox behind the following Series winners that I have actually watched 89 A's 92 and 93 Jays 95 Braves Late 90s Yanks That puts them in the middle of the road of world series winners of the last 20 years. |

I'm a Cubs fan, but what the Sox did in the playoffs was pretty damn impressive. The way they steamrolled through everybody (the Red Sox and Angels were two really good teams they beat up on), they could have beaten any WS champ over the last 20 years. If you took their regular season compared to that of other WS champs, they probably are middle of the road. |
