I think this is the first time I've started a series thread.

Probably the best win of the season in Game 1. Clean pitching, timely hitting (except for Harrison) and even the managing was good.

3-4 so far in this brutal stretch against the Jays, Rays and Dodgers. Danny Mendick has filled in well for Anderson. You see a guy like him who can play six defensive positions while making the minimum and wonder why Hahn would give a three year contract to Leury.

Kopech will be an ace next year once he's built up stamina.

Tough matchup tonight. I'd love to think Cueto can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

I was there last night too. Pretty sparse crowd for the Dodgers. Going again tonight.

Speaking of Kopech, is he their All Star? Every team has to have one. Anderson and Hendriks are the only others who should even receive consideration at this point. Who goes from the Cubs...Willllson?

Cease, Kopech, Hendricks, or Anderson. They will get at least two. If they can string together some wins now they will be really rolling when Lynn and Anderson return. Anderson is already running.

Yeah, but all the questions are dumb. They position it so you don't give any real negative answers.

For example, I don't really care about the players. I've been a Sox fan through Gail Hopkins and Lee Richard and Jamie Navarro and Gordon Beckham. I'd like them to be good but it isn't my highest value.

I don't think a .500 team is getting five All Stars. Sure if they rattle off 10 in a row or 12 out of 18 or something like that it would help.

At this point I think they get two at best- Anderson and Kopech. Maybe another pitcher makes it as guys drop out or pitch Sat/Sun and aren't available to throw in the AS game.

McCuddy’s (247 W. 35th Street, Chicago)


McCuddy’s Tavern stood near Comiskey Park for nearly nine decades.

McCuddy’s Tavern had a long celebrated history on the South Side of Chicago. It was opened by John McCuddy in 1910, just five months before Comiskey Park was inaugurated just across the street. Once inside, patrons feasted their eyes on wall-to-wall Sox mementos dating back to its inception in 1894.

McCuddy’s soon became the fashionable place to go on Opening Day for a dog and some suds. Former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley made it a point to swing through McCuddy’s on Opening Day.

The most thrilling feeling for patrons inside McCuddy’s was knowing how many famous players drank exactly where they were tipping their mugs of beer, including many from the 1919 White Sox team, Big Ed Walsh, Ted Lyons, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Charles Comiskey, and later, Carlton Fisk.

Chicago White Sox owner Bill Veeck was reportedly a frequent visitor to McCuddy’s, where he would settle in his chair and prop his wooden leg on the table before diving into a few baseball yarns.

A famous story has it that Babe Ruth once made a mad dash from Comiskey Park to McCuddy’s while a game was still in progress and destroyed their carpeting as he hopped around the watering hole in his spikes, stuffing four hot dogs in his mouth while washing them down with four steins of beer.

McCuddy’s Tavern, a 78-year-old institution, became just one of 11 businesses to be demolished in 1988 to make way for the new Comiskey Park.

Despite promises from Governor James R. Thompson to clear some space for a new McCuddy’s Tavern, it was never rebuilt.

If they're going to insist on scanning tickets once at the gate, and again 200' later for 100 level access, then have 5 useless ushers scanning at each gate.
