Strap in for four games with the worst TV viewing angles in the bigs, live from a sterile barn.

That 3rd run right there is because of bad outfield defense...Vaughn and Pollock do-se-do-ing instead of pegging the guy on a shallow fly ball...lead goes from 1 to 2

Never going to win with bad defense

You got a 1B playing RF and a corner OF playing CF. That a bad combo.

You'd be going into extras...and yet you're not...and both division rivals lost, too

Agree. They constantly shoot themsevles in the foot. What the math says doesnt matter. This isnt a Championship team.

They’re exactly who they’ve been for the past year. The only reason it wasn’t 3-1 was a flukey mishandle on a looper to center.

The team can’t hit when it matters and routinely wastes good SP.

6-9 (combined 2-14 tonight) hitters in the batting order are basically impotent and the guy that was not considered to be "useless" was pinch hit for by a career minor leaguer when they needed a leadoff base runner in the 9th inning. If 1-5 do not generate offense then there will not be any offense. That much is clear. The hope is that Moncada can regain his form from 2-3 years ago at some point. Be that as it may the goal is still the same.
Get to the playoffs and see what happens from there. It's not a "lost season" if they don't win a championship. That's Score and Bernsteinesque bullshit. It's only a "lost season" if they don't make the playoffs.

They are not going in as a Wild Card. Way too many teams, not enough games.

They have to beat the the three teams in front of them to win the Division. Minnesota (maybe) Cleveland (probably) Themselves (no fucking way).

White Sox bad defense....it's just one of those things I've come to expect on a yearly basis.

.500 mediocre group of blah (minus the exceptions of Timmay and Cease).

Jesse Rogers today mentioned that the W Sox surprisingly are 2nd MLB ba risp.

It's a anomaly and easily explainable by looking at their rank in runs, OPS and HRs. Cleveland has the exact same problem.

If you're going to hit singles all night, you better have the pitching and defense. If not, you're 1 game over .500.

From today's Jim O'Donnell column.

...in 78 seasons overseeing the Sox and Bulls, without Jordan, Reinsdorf teams have won one championship.

I appreciate Vaughn’s stats and all that but his lack of power bothers me. It seems like he’ll barrel balls that end up as easy pop flys.

I've been thinking the same thing myself. They say power is the last tool to develop, but shouldn't we see more of it by now? How valuable is a first basemen/mediocre corner outfielder that hits 15 to 20 homers a year?

Yeah I get that impression too. He was reputed to be a "power hitting slugger" coming out of college but it seems that he only has warning track power for the most part.

Seems to be primarily a gap hitter.

To be fair, nobody on this team hits homeruns anymore. I always go back to Menechino's quote when talking about Vaughn "Fuck the homerun". If I recall correctly, dating back to the Marlins days, Menechino teams are always too 5 in groundball rate.

Baseball is funny. Launch angle will get you to the playoffs and but that's where launch angle dies. Good luck angling Verlander and DeGrom.

Yeah it is almost like good players and teams need to be able to do both. Crazy thought.

The White Sox are winning games in ways they'll need to win in the playoffs; that's encouraging. Maybe the Juiced or standard ball will return then.

Vaughn is in year two with the Sox and never played above A ball previous. He'll be fine.

3 problems. The park is built to hit HRs, the team is built to hit HRs, and we are dead last in walks.

So we either start bombing them out or perform a miracle and add a few BBs to the singles and doubles.

Billy: Marcus, we want you to play a decent shortstop. It's not that hard. Tell him Wash.

Washington: It's incredibly hard.

It sure is nice not to have an PBP guy who does stand up for 7 yr olds, isn't it?
