Once again losing the first game of the series.

It's amzaing that in the last 2 months, they have the lost the first game of a series in EVERY series but one (sweep at SF), and still somehow managed to tighten the division race.

This team just cannot sweep series's.

Just a poor team.

They should be stomping a bad team that got even thinner after the fuckin deadline.

I'm not a guy to complain about umpires, but that was a rare game where the guy behind the plate actually cost the Sox the game. He was squeezing Cueto in a way you don't really see. I can just imagine if Hawk had been announcing the game.

Vaughn can't make a play on a fly ball a competent OF would make, creating a 1-0 deficit.

next inning with the bases loaded Sheets hits a fly ball that and their OF thinks its the third out but Abreu isn't in a position to tag up.

Two runs right there and indicative of a lot of problems.

The great Jose Abreu has gotten a big pass this year on a lot of his uninspired efforts. He's another one of these Weird Jerry (thanks AWSFB) contract for life people who has gotten far too comfortable. I know his "advanced" numbers are in line with his career averages but he seems so much less impactful.

It's painful watching Moncada play baseball. What happened to that guy? He's still not even in his baseball prime and he moves like a guy 10 years older.

I think this is about it for me being engaged with the team this year. They have the Tigers this weekend to continue this farce. Then they play the Astros and Cleveland, which should put an end to all hope.

It's the same things over and over, and it's why they are a completely average .500 team.

Close to half the starting lineup every night is batting around .200, the defense is poor, and the baserunning is poor. Add in their overall lack of power, and it makes it damn near impossible for them to go on any kind of significant winning streak/good run. Too many games that would be 3-2 wins with solid "little things", will turn into 6-3 losses.

The fan in me keeps hoping for the hot streak, but it's really hard to make a case for how it can happen.

The hot streak had to have happened over these last couple of weeks. It didn't come. Maybe they get to 4-5 games over by Sunday but the truth is coming next week.

They’re not going to get a hot steak with 2 starting pitchers with ERA ‘s over 5 .

Something tells me bats will improve right around the time Cueto turns back into a pumpkin, leaving them with 1 1/2 starting pitchers.

Sox got their second and third runs from an error, and see dolphin's reply below yours. The ump wasn't the reason they lost the game last night. Also, Moncada makes a throwing error and then Cueto gives up a bloop 2-run single on a great changeup that was off the plate, and the KC batter just threw his bat at.

Your starter covers 6 and gives up 1 ER. That should be enough to beat KC. A good team would have won last night. The Sox are not a good time, umpires notwithstanding.

KDdidit, in another thread, wrote:
They get Cueto off the scrap heap and he’s been absolutely amazing (compared to expectations) and they find ways to piss MANY of those games away.
It really is amazing that given all of the talent this team has on paper, its taking Johnny fucking Cueto to have almost a career year to keep the Sox "in" this so called pennant race. If it wasn't for Cueto, this team is easily 4, 5, maybe 6 games under .500.

The word for this team and this organization is pathetic. Don't @me with your math and standings.

Its like saying if the Bears snuck into the playoffs with a 9-8 record that they have a shot at wining the Super Bowl. Technically true, realistically doubtful.

100%. In fact, MANY here (myself included) were saying to fire Nagy after the 2020 season and 'playoff' appearance.

I don't really count the MLB Wild Card round/game as making the playoffs anyway.

Grandal is just brutal and batting him anywhere other than 9th is just asking for a rally to be killed.

Salaries be dammed, these guys suck. IL or DFA them and get guys from the minors up here who could absolutely do no worse at the plate.

The mighty Royals have 46 wins this season. 15% of those wins are against the White Sox.

What a genius. Jerry owns the team this won't happen. How is Soto doing on the Cardinals? This genius doesn't know the difference between Alex Jones and Alex Berenson.

LaRussas quotes after the game last night about what Cueto said are pretty bad.

Dude is in over his head. Sad to see a guy who was regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time completely soil his image.

Keuchel-- a WS winner and veteran pitcher-- said similar things in 2020. You can dismiss it if it happens once. When it happens the second time and the comments again are made by WS winning veteran pitcher? Where there's smoke there's fire.

Quote:
“I’m surprised that he said that,” La Russa said. “But not only is his opinion welcomed, it also carries weight. (He’s) experienced. So I’ll ask him about it.

“He’s a veteran, we all respect him. But it’s surprising, usually that’s better said in the clubhouse for the teammates. That way it can be discussed.”

“It’s a curious statement,” La Russa said Thursday. “Better to be discussed with the family, if there’s a problem, we’ll straighten it out.”
You know what else is better said in the clubhouse and kept in the family? A rookie swinging at a 3-0 pitch off a position player but that didn't stop LaRussa from blabbing to anybody with a microphone that Mercedes was breaking the sacred unwritten rules of baseball. And yeah, there is a problem. You're in fucking 3rd place, Tony, and on paper you have by far the most talented team in the division.

LaRussa is fucking cooked and has been for months. The fact that Hahn hasn't fired him or resigned becuase he can't fire him shows just how little guts and care he has for this team.

This season is destroying my fandom. The White Sox are not worth my time or effort. Time to be a Brewers or Cardinals fan. This organization is a fucking joke.

Post subject:  Re: Sox @ Royals

I am going to give Hahn the benefit of the doubt that if it were his decision he would fire him, but I don't think Jerry will let him. Now of course one can argue then that Hahn should quit. And I would agree with that as well.

Author:  Frank Coztansa [ Thu Aug 11, 2022 1:21 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Sox @ Royals

Maybe Hahn could fire him without JERRY"s approval. Is it written into the contract that only Jerry can fire TLR? Could be. But if its not, Hahn should have made that move on his own. And if that burns bridges with the White Sox, so be it. He can say, "I thought making a managerial move was best for the team so I did what I felt was best for the ballclub."

Hahn wouldn't be unemployed long if Jerry were to shitcan him. Probably not as a GM, but some team would hire him.

Post subject:  Re: Sox @ Royals

Part of me thinks Hahn has no integrity for not quitting when Larussa was forced on him but another part also realizes there are only a few GM positions and they don't open up all that often and he's got a young family he has to feed

Maybe its the umpires fault they didn't score.
