Seeing names like Bochy, AJ, Cairo, and Willie Harris.

If Bochy is interested, then I would think he is a no brainer. But he maybe perfectly happy in retirement.

AJ would be an intriguing guy.

I loved stone's answer when he was asked about Ozzie.

670: should it be/could it be Ozzie?

Stone: [long pause]. No.

670:... Why not?

Stone: Because no.

I expect they’ll scour the pamphlet of former White Sox employees who’d like the job and conduct a reverse Dutch auction to identify the cheapest candidate.

Voilà, welcome back to the clubhouse Willie Harris.

If they’re going to go with a no experience guy I’d rather they look at Carlos Beltran than forcing AJ into the Ventura role.

I think AJ would be helpful in changing the culture. I dont think he would put up with lack of hustle and some of the other things they have dealt with over the year.

If it is anyone other than Bruce Bochy, I am done for a while.

I. Don’t. Care.

Just like I didn’t care when it was Tony.

It really doesn’t matter.

Players play good they win. If they don’t, they lose.

Besides Uncle Jerry's son Kenny, why are the Sox opposed to Ozzie? I would be okay with Bruce Almighty. AJ seems like a fun choice. Catchers used to make great managers.

I’d be good with AJ and Bochy is probably the best candidate so…it’ll be Beltran.

Mattingly?

I think they should get someone from the Terry Francona coaching tree. They probably can't get Alomar as he's in line to take over in Cleveland when Francona's body gives out. But Kevin Cash is Tampa is one of his guys, so maybe one of Cash's coaches.

That was my first thought but he has said he is taking a year off.

Just no Girardi.

What has Mattingly done for him to be considered?

Here's the list from the Tribune:

If Hahn gets his way I think it's going to be front office errand boy Chris Getz. Of the names on that list, only Beltran and Bochy really interest me.

NFL head coaches matter 100 times more than any other pro sport. NBA and NHL coaches are a distant second.

MLB managers mean the least.

I thought Getz was on a front office career path. Otherwise he’d have been the punchline to my Willie Harris joke.

A certainty during the new manager's introductory press conference transparency, chemistry, clubhouse presence, leadership blah, blah, blah, blah...

Justin Jirschele would be a guy I hope they scrutinize heavily. He's a riser in their system, won managing awards in the minors and coached a lot of these players when they were good.

Post subject:  Re: Who Will Be Sox New Manager?

As you know, I don't care who the manager is. The players have to play. But since the media and fans are obsessed with this mostly meaningless position, here are some thoughts.

Ozzie would be perfect for this team at this point. Of course Stone is correct and that will never happen. Also, when you hire Ozzie or a guy like him- Billy Martin comes to mind- you need to understand that he's a short term arswer, a kick in the ass of a moribund team. If you keep a guy like that too long, he'll just wear the players out.

Pierzynski is probably a guy like that too. Except with him there's the possibility that all the Cubans just tune him out right off the bat. He's way too risky a hire for this team right now.

Bochy is like LaRussa- a guy who has been away from the game for years. Do you really want to do that again?

Mattingly would be a good choice. Jack McDowell has already said he'd be intereted in being on his staff. I'd be really happy not to see guys automatically pulled after X number of pitches.

Willie Harris is ready to manage in the big leagues. I'd have no problem with him. Or with bringing back Cairo.

Good idea. He probably knows what lineup to write down. Save the manager's salary and use it on free agents.

I have this perception that he was a student-of-the-game kinda guy and he was one of my favorite hitters to watch. So really my interest is based on fuck all.

He’s youngish, not too far removed from playing and the Latinx factor plays a part. But I’ll readily admit I know nothing about the guy as a potential manager.

I also think the manager doesn’t really matter and I also complained a lot about TLR. I’m just trying to hit all sides of this argument.
