They'll use this to justify signing their next past-his-prime infielder.

Local ratings probably suck and ad revenue is in the toilet. NBC didn't bid for rights, Sox own 1/3 of the RSN, as I understand it.

That might be part of it. Isn't there some clause where the free rent is only if tickets are way down? With the expectations before the shitty season maybe they sold too many tickets? Even if no one showed.

So close. No wonder he didn't fire Tony early.

It's possible if you run a tight ship operationally, create decent revenue streams on top of the game, and don't carry bloated contracts.

Without seeing any numbers, I have to assume most/all clubs take a loss each weekday the park is open for a game. Not sure how much if any the low attendance revenue actually surpass the cost of keeping the lights on for that game.

The lease costs them just 18K per game. How in the fuck are they losing money? 2 million fans is about 25K per home game. Just taking 75 cents from each fan in attendance covers their faciltiy. Ain't no fucking way they losing money.

JR isn't losing money in the way we think of it. His accounting shows he's "losing" money so that he can make more money than he already made.

I don't think he's on the hook for maintenance either other than setup & cleanup. Why would he ever move? Those 987 skyboxes go unsold though.

They will lose more this year. Shorter games means less time to buy $12 beers (probably $14 this year)

Guessing those losses are before $100 mil+ per team revenue sharing is taken into account.

All of these numbers are just presented and no attribution to any source is given. So, I don't know if I buy any of it. However, if the A's numbers are correct, that's absolutely disgusting.

Post subject:  Re: Sox supposedly lost 53.4 million last season

No way Jerry is taking a loss. They know what they average every year in attendence. About 25k. Which is what they did last year. 20k when they're a shit team. They were a shit team but they were projected to be better.

He knows what the numbers are gonna be before the year starts. Jerry isn't taking a 55 million dollar hit. He's just not. He actually has like 20 minority owners that he has to answer to. People forget that. He's the majority owner but not by much as far as percentage when you add up the minority owners.

And I know the A's have a smaller pay roll. But they can't be making 65 million when the Sox are minus 55 million. Makes no sense. All those numbers are false. Every MLB team had a profit last year. There's Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs and Red Sox profit. Which is huge. But everybody else does fine.

The Dodgers got in on that Reginal sports network money before that money dried up. They have a long term deal. Cubs got into that when the money wasn't there. Then Covid killed all of that foolish money.

The average attendance at Oakland Athletics games in Major League Baseball in 2022 was 9,973.

Those numbers can't be correct.
