Just thinking about this. Then I will be mad over Benetti leaving.

1. It's late in the game to get one. I figure most of the good ones already have their jobs for next year.

2. It might just be a temporary thing. Just give McDoink one year until they can find a better one.

3. He'd be cheap. Jerry likes that.

But i hope the hell it doesn't happen.

McKnight is actually not that bad. I prefer his call to Andy Mazur or late career Ed Farmer.

He'd certainly be an upgrade over Benetti.

Present day Farmer would arguably be an upgrade.

That might be enough to get Stone to retire before the season starts.

McDoink and Beckham, 162 games a year minus some Saturday evenings when they might be on FOX.

Just perfect for the Benetti haters out there.

Andy Mazur was the "rule book double" guy, wasn't he?

Didn't hate him. Just wish he'd shut the fuck up every now and again. Not every corny thought needed to come out of his mouth.

McDoink has been pretty good on pre and post. I actually listen a decent amount.

I'd take him over Beckham. Beckham has a hot mom, of course, but I can't hear a damn thing he says.

How ironic stuffed shirt Jerry lets his announcers give mild critiques of players. Unlike the Cubs hamstringing the announcers with mandated all is good. I've never had to flip on the VPN to get the opponents broadcasts with the Sox TV crews like with Boog. Or, flip to opponents MLB tv audio to avoid Cubs radio inundated advertiser plugs with Sox radio.

I don't remember any of his catch phrases. He was competent at calling the game, but he was really stiff. DJ needs someone with whom he can be silly, and Mazur really couldn't banter with him.

I should have also added Chris Singleton to announcers who aren't as good as McKnight.

McDoink as the selection wouldn't surprise me at all.....I guess it would be better than ZZ.

Isn't he the favorite? Local host already connected to the team, probably costs less than any other options?

I guess they could go with Beckham, but then they wouldn't have an actual play by play option and he would be more likely to replace Stone when he retires.

Have there been any other names mentioned? Bernstein and Holmes seemed to know who it was, and they said it was going to be a company/yes man type hire. Would they say that about McDoink?

Yup. Fully expecting McDoink to be the guy, with some Sox apologist shill to be the pre & post guy.

Does Beckham count? They need a pbp guy - I don’t recall if he does that or just chips in on Stone’s frequent vacations.

Aren't they all "company/yes man" types? Stone will get critical, but it's still soft-edged criticism.

Who is on the list of candidates though? Stone did say that he's got a great relationship with the White Sox organization; he does get a bit sarcastic with topics related to the team, but ultimately he knows who pays him.

I don't recall either, but assuming he has filled in for Stone mainly.

Jerry loves making ex-players do play-by-play because the Yankees did it with Bill White and Phil Rizzuto.

Nothing like listening to "Wake and Bake" on the way into lessons on a Saturday morning and then driving home listening to ZZ and Dave Corzine bringing you exciting DePaul Big East Basketball. Every basket he is more animated then Jud Sirott used to be calling Chicago Wolves goals.
