Game 1

I loved this win. I'm serious. 11-10. Yess!!!

I know the bullpen sucks so it's great when they suck and we win. Them sucking isn't gonna change. Danks got a cheap win which he deserves as payback for other losses. He actually has had a couple cheap wins now. So his 6-6 reccord has been evened out. That's what he deserves.

By the way. Konerko has been great for about 2 months now. Even his outs are hard hit. I'm rooting for him to get 100 RBI's. He was off pace for a while but it's a possibility now. That's how I was as a kid when the Sox sucked. I always had to find something. I also want Buehrle, Garland and Vasquez to get at least 16 wins. That's what you do when your team sucks. Thome's gonna get 500 too. So at least we have that going for us. LOL.

This is one of the few benefits of a bad team - you can still root for your team to win games even when it means nothing. In football, a win when your team is 4-10 means only a worse draft slot so I'm with you. I hope we can at least get some individual goals accomplished, and maybe get a look at some younger players after the trading deadline.

Great win. Fields is quietly becoming a nice-looking fit @ 3rd--BTW, BD, what happened to "The Truth Commission"?

There has been nothing "quiet" about Fields being a nice fit at third. Anyone that's been paying attention should know and realize that he is the future of the White Sox at that corner. No, he is not going to be as good defensively as Crede, but he will be better at the plate.

I think he's the future at 3B, but I wonder if there's a chance they go with Crede at 3B, and Fields in LF next season.

He's been better of late, but I still don't have much hope for him becoming anything more than a reserve player.

Anyone else think he's got a rather large swing ?

Ozzie sparked him. DJ has mentioned it. He's got to become Otis Nixon. Slap the ball and run. He'll beat out his share. Plus get that drag bunt down. He's got no gap power. He never will. But if he can get on with a single it's a double with a stolen base. He can probably steal 85% of his attempts.

If I had to bet I'd say he'd never become that .300 hitter. Thus he'll never make it. I still have hope. That's the Sox fan in me.

We need one of those young OF's to step up and take a job for next season. We can't spend at every position, and we do need a few of these young guys to even out the payroll so I'm hoping I'm wrong about Owens.

I know. I've got that slim hope it's Lewis. I think he might be better in left. Defidently not right with his arm.

Hell, when Pods and Erstad come back don't play them. At least not at lead off. Why would you? Give Lewis the rest of the year. That's the benefit of sucking. You can see what you have.

Just for the reccord Terrero sucks and always will. So you can cut him for all I care. He's 26 and had chances with Arizona. He just isn't good and never will be.

Terrero is just a body...he's never going to pan out. Pods' playing time, when he does come back, should be limited, especially if Owens plays ok. Erstad shouldn't play much either, but he's Ozzie's gamer so I think he'll play, but I agree, let's play Owens and Sweeney the rest of the way in LF/CF.

See, but I know Ozzie. He's gonna feel obligated to his vets - Erstad and Pods. They are looking for contracts next year and he'll give them playing time. I know he will. It sucks.

Crede MUST start at 3B next year. Even if the Sox cannot sign him long term, he must be showcased in order to maximize his trade value. I don't know where Fields will play or whether he will be in the minors for half a year. However, Crede has to be the starting third baseman in April.

I think Fields in left would be a bad move. I might be in the minority, but I think defense is vastly underrated in baseball. Teams that are consistently good every year usually have solid defensive players. Crede at 3rd shouldn't even be a question (barring injury of course). Fields is extremely slow, is inexperienced in left field, and hasn't proven himself as a major league hitter enough to justify sacrificing defense in left field. I don't think it'll be that difficult to get good value for Joe Crede in the off-season if that's what the Sox want to do....but if Fields plays it has to be at third.

I'd agree with everything except that Fields is slow and that the Sox could get good value for Crede in the offseason.

I would actually agree that LF for Fields is a horrible decision and that he is slow defensively. However, I do believe that he has shown a good amount of talent at the plate. He is much better offensively.

Anybody remember a certain third baseman that was called up by the Sox and tore it up at the plate at the end of 2002. He followed that up with subpar performances for years until he finally broke out in the "05 playoffs and World Series and then a solid '06 season. I'm not saying there's no chance for Fields, but I'm not convinced he's the answer yet.

i dont know if id ever call crede "subpar". sure, his average was pretty low, but his power numbers were always pretty good, and he was always clutch at the plate. whats he have like 7 or 8 career walk off RBIs? and we all know what he does with the glove.

im more upset that sweeny or brian anderson isnt up here. the team is obviously going nowhere, i dont think jerry owens is ready to be an everyday, or even a 3-4 times a week, CF, so why not bring those guys up? i liked what i saw from sweeny when he was up with the big club. did they just give up on brian anderson? the team is going nowhere, so nows the time to let those guys come up here and learn at the big league level

the biggest positive so far this year has been john danks

I agree Frank, both about Sweeney/Anderson, and Danks. I liked what I saw from Sweeney too, and this is a great opportunity to find out what they really have in him.

I was at a bar last night and the volume wasn't up on CSN SportsNite, so forgive me if this is already common knowledge, but does anyone know why Masset was sent down?

You mean other than the 7.09 ERA? There was no official note as to why, but with calling up Haegar you can send Massett down for more seasoning. Also, when you have 4 strikes thrown for 15 pitches, I'm sure Ozzie wasn't real happy with that. I expect more shuffling of the pen coming up. Since he's on the 40 man, I wouldn't be surprised to see AA reliever Oneli Perez get a call up. He's a righthander with a WHIP around 1.

At first I thought it was because he sucks (39 IP, 31 ER)....but that doesn't explain why the rest of the bullpen is still here.

Brian Anderson is in a cast and most likely out for the rest of the year.

Sweeney will be up once Dye is moved. I am glad to see Dye hitting now as the trading deadline approaches.

Game 2

Garland battled his ass off today. He had nothing left in the 6th and only gave up one run. Cheap hit to get that run.

Ozzie said fuck it. He's out of gas but he's still my best option. Let's get some more runs to get Garland the win. Bullpen's about to get rocked.

Yeah, how many pitches did he throw, about 120 ? Guess we won't hear North talking tomorrow about Guillen going to the bullpen to early....Who knows though, he may still blame Guillen if the Sox lose this game becaue he didn't throw Garland 150 pitches.

I liked seeing that out of Garland today without his best stuff. I hope they win this game, he fought for this one.

Outside of his usuall slow start, and that pounding he took vs Minny, Garland's been a stud this season. Big fan of him, and I'd love to find a way to lock him up long-term after this season, but I'd be surprised if that happened.

He definitely battled through this game tonight, hope the bullpen can hold it.

You gotta love the throw him out at the plate double play to get out of an inning.

Nice throw Dye.

More showcasing of the talent of one Jermaine Dye. Lots of clubs should start calling Kenny since he's healthy now.

He's looking very good since the all-star break.....too bad, he and others, didn't start hitting until mid June. Actually, probably wouldn't have mattered much with that bullpen.
