Maybe more to it, but Fedde and Kopech, and the best prospect coming back is ranked #17 in the Dodgers system. Not MLB, the Dodgers 17th best. That said, I won't even pretend to know anything about prospects.

The Score reported that the Sox got some kid named Vargus from the Dodgers that had some MLB time already

Sox are losing 120 games, so whatever, but this doesn't seem great for trading 3 of their "hot" pieces.

Kopech and Pham combined have 0.0 fWar, Fedde is the valuable one.

The Sox have apparently traded for Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite

Did the Sox get anything of value in return?

I'd go to soxtalk if the site weren't inaccessible due to all the people logged in

I know nothing about any of the players. I do think Crochet is going to be the best pitcher in baseball during one of the years of Dodger control, so there is almost no one who would make me happy to see him go.

EDIT: the little bit I was able to read at soxtalk made it sound like a shitty, fan base killing trade. This sucks. They traded two top half of the rotation mlb pitchers for middling prospects. Fuck this. I've been to one game this year. I have no reason to believe I'll go to more next year.

Were the White Sox ever going to get much in return for Tommy Phan? He played well, but I don't think he had much value. Kopech is all potential and could work out for the Dodgers, but wasn't a consistent pitcher for the White Sox. Again, hard to see a team trading a lot for him. I thought they could do a little better with the return on Fedde, but he's 31 years old and having a career season.

The Dodgers, at least from my limited reading, have 2 top-100 prospects, but a deeper system so maybe getting prospects the 2nd half of their top 25 is a little better than most teams.

One concern I have is that these IF prospects are 19 and 20 years old so probably 2-3 years away from contributing if they ever do.

Overall, was hoping for at least one prospect who was more highly regarded and I know nothing about any of these players they got back, but at least they are position players. They are lacking so more competition is good. It was probably unrealistic to expect much in return for Pham/Kopech, but slightly bothered that they couldn't land a bit more with Fedde amongst the better starting pitching options available.

I don't think it was a great trade for the Sox, but just to talk you off the ledge a little, it was Kopech, not Crochet

Speigs brought up a good point during transition today. The Cardinals get a quality SP from the Sox and a decent role player in Pham and they did not have to give up any prospects to the Sox in the deal? All they gave up was a guy who has not played an inning yet this year to the dodgers? That seems really strange

They still have time to sell him off for 25 cents on the dollar.

The Cardinals did very well here. Not sure how they got the 2 MLB players who can contribute to their season without really giving up anything unless Kopech was the real prize here (which would not be based on his performance, just potential).

I know. Just cut and paste my earlier posts for when it happens.

Didn't the Dodgers need pitching? Why wouldn't they have just taken Fedde for what they gave the Sox

Sox help the Cardinals for the next 1+ years, so we do have to factor that into the trade.

This was a good trade by the Sox. Joendy Vargas could be a superstar (or a bust). Who gives a shit about giving up Fredde, you can find guys like him off the street every year, especially in today's offense depressed MLB.

Cards get a SP pitcher having a nice season, whatever Pham gives them, and cash from both teams. In return, the sent a player that's been hurt all season to LA. Seems like a nice deal for them anyway.

I'm not even bothering looking these guys up. Pretty bitter they couldn't develop Kopech. He was inarguably better at age 22 than now.

35 hits and 24BB/5 HBP. It's unconscionable this was still happening at age 28. Fucker should be able to fall out of bed and get a 1.1 WHIP.
