Amazing what throwing stikes can do. 99 pitches, 61 strikes. 6 innings of shutout ball. i know the tigers are struggling but this had to be an encouraging performance for him.

Hopefully this gets him a few more starts. Putting Jose out there is sort of like forefiting. Put him on the DL or in the pen and see what you have with Floyd.

I've been clamoring for the kids for a while. i want to see Floyd the rest of the year - he needs to prove if he should be considered for the rotation next year. same with Richar, Owens and Fields.

not a rookie, but Pods is actually showing he deserves to be on this club next year. Bring him back cheap and let Pods/Owens go 1-2 and run like crazy.

He should be a starter for the rest of the season, and Ozzie will hopefully not use a 6 man rotation like he has been talking about. I don't understand the need to keep Contreras happy. He should be in a mop-up role in the bullpen for the rest of the season, or shut down. Re-evaluate in the off-season.

There is no reason to pitch Jose. I'm even looking at it from the Sox perspective. Even if he has a couple good starts I still wouldn't be confident in him next season. My opinion wouldn't change. All he'll be next year is a year older.

Even if he pitches great it still won't improve his trade value. Teams won't forget this 10 game stretch. Nobody will want him even with a couple good starts.

For the benefit of the club you need to keep Floyd in there.

Why is this even a question ?

"The way [Floyd] pitched, we should give him another start," manager Ozzie Guillen said.

Why are they trying to appease Contreras ?

Guillen said he would decide Tuesday whether the Sox would opt for a six-man rotation and settle the status of Jose Contreras, who warmed up in the bullpen Sunday.

Jose Contreras should not start another game this year, unless it is Triple A as a rehab. I understand Ozzie wanting let a veteran "work through" a rough spot. But, this more than a rough spot. The guy obviously does not have it this year. No matter what he does for the next 2 months, he will not ahve any trade value in the offseason. So, shut him down and hope to catch lighting in a bottle with him in 08.

Stone is dead on here with his analysis of Floyd - he needs to establish he can get his off speed stuff earlier in the games so they dont sit on his 90 MPH fastball.
