The Stone Pony , Steve Stone will take over as the color guy in the Sox radio booth with Ed Farmer as Singleton is moved out . Great move by the Sox and they need to work on the T.V.booth now.

Hard to believe that Singleton got a job with Baseball Tonight, but its good for the Sox to get Stone.

They announced on the Mike North morning show as it was a Score exclusive with Stone as The Score is the White Sox flagship.

Awesome. This will mean I can listen to the Sox longer than just to find out what the score is. Great move here...think they'll be slowly grooming Stone to eventually work with and take Hawk's place when he goes fully senile in 2 seasons?

I can't wait to hear Stone's take on organ donations, sunglasses, Coach Weiss, Lou Holtz, Augusta, and Farmio's dearest friend George.

This is a good move generally but I find Stone better on TV than radio since his analysis of a pitch sequence or defensive play (For all you young ballplayers out there) can easily be seen on TV than in my cluttered mind.

I want to hear Stone's take on Farmer's All-Star appearance.

I'm surprised the Sox website, or Score website doesn't have it up yet - it truly must have been 'breaking news'.

Whatever it is.. it's GREAT news.

Stoney will add a listenable dimension to the White Sox broadcasts.

This year radio... next year TV.

I like it!

As a Cubs fan, I have to ask how we got stuck with Santo & the Sox get Stone?

Doesn't seem fair.

Seriously...great move by the Sox.

How quickly does he get into the TV booth????

If I were the Sox I would immediately consider Stone switching to the TV booth for 3 innings of the game, similar to what the Cubs used to do with Brickhouse.

fucking "stumpy" can't put three words together or a coherent thought either. Not sure how Hughes does it.

Stoney is the man though...and like Dolphin said, they should work him into the tv booth ASAP.

Is Singlio replacing Dusty on Baseball Tonight?

Quote:
No matter how badly the White Sox play this year, the radio broadcasts WSCR-AM 670-AM will at least be entertaining and interesting with Steve Stone replacing the intolerable Chris Singleton to work alongside the underrated Ed Farmer. Heard the news Tuesday on the Mike North Morning Show. Singleton apparently is going to ESPN as a "Baseball Tonight" talking head, and I'm thinking, ESPN must have a void at guys who have the speech pattern of a pinball machine. No matter. Singleton is gone and the smartest man on my radio or television is going to keep me company on a regular basis. At least until Stone buys the Cubs

I wonder if Singleton's descriptions will be 3 or 4 seconds behind the actual hi-lite on air like he was when he did play by play.

This is the best news the Sox have had since '05. Stone will automatically make Farmer have to call the action. farmer for years would sit and mumble about the game with Rooney without painting a picture. Thats Stone's specialty. Farmer will have to adapt or HE will be replaced. I'd love a trade for Pat Hughes.

Do you think the Score will make Stone do 3 innings of play by play? Farmer doesn't want to do all 9 innings it seems. That's why they forced Singleton to learn.

I'm sure Stone doesn't want to do that. But when he was with Hawk he did do a couple innings of play by play.

Why do the Sox split it up duties on TV and radio? Pat Hughes and Len Casper do 9 innings of play by play with no problem.

I'm happy with the move. Everybody hated Singleton. I didn't like him but I've always hated Farmer more.

Dolphin is right. Farmer can't pull rank and be an arrogant ass hole to Stone. Stone is a seasoned arrogant ass hole and will give it right back.

Actually, Pat only does 8 innings of pbp, Cory Provus works the 5th. He's adequate at best. Doesn't have the voice for radio, but who in radio really does these days, right? IIRC, Masur only worked the opponent's half of the 6th. Who thought I'd one day lament the departure of Andy Masur.

In a perfect world, Pat Hughes and Steve Stone would be calling the Cubs games, but oh well.

I remember when the White Sox had a 'big announcement' a couple of decades ago.

Lou Brock was one of their announcers.

I guess things just didn't work out.

I could be a regular listener of whomever employees him.

Farmer-Singleton were a team that drew me away from listening even during a 90 win season. Stone-Farmer are the exact opposite. Stone is actually making Farmer a bearable listen.

Stoney's intelligent insight takes a little more air time then Singleton's did. Farmer doesn't have enough mic time anymore. By saying less, he's gotten better.

No more 5 minute rants about throwing at the opposition's players.
