With the Tigers well on their way to 0-7, at what point do they start hitting the panic button. I know it is the second week of the season. However, I saw a John Dewan stat that showed that teams who started 3-7 or worse had only a 20% chance of making the playoffs.

Yeah - but not this team. They'll buck that trend.

They're in line for one of those Leyland ass chewings like a few years back.
That "meeting" will be immediatelly followed by Sheffield's accusations that Leyland is racist and Kenny Rodgers assult spree of a camera crew, and fans in the parking garage.

And Leyland will call Maglio a piece of shit.

Long season. Tigers are good. I think one thing is clear however. The Tigers aren't winning 100 games like some have predicted. That's the only thing I've learned so far. It's not going to take 101 for the Sox to win this division.

I don't know, recent Chicago sports trends (Bulls and Bears) have shown me it's never to early to panic as many kept repeating that both of those teams had way too much talent to get off to the starts that they did and yet both continued to suck. I won't say the Tigers are destined to finish under .500, but I don't think they're a lock to make the playoffs either.

Tigers are good. They'll snap out of this at some point. I'm more worried about the White Sox going into an extended funk like they have shown they are capable to. Exciting season so far though.

Me too. They will win game #20 before they get to .500.

I think Cabrera has 2 hits this year

it might not be that quick but come on, two years in a row we had to hear a weeks worth of sports radio in early June how the Yankees were done, guess what they made the playoffs both years.

Just for fun if you give me 2 to 1 odds I will say they are 15-15 or better at the 15 win mark. My 5 to your 10. First 3 to PM me you are on!! Small money so small emotions....but fun! PM away!!

Two things will keep the tigers out of the playoffs:

1) the loss of granderson. he makes that offense click, not unlike what pods did in 2005

2) shitty bullpen. without zumaya and rodney, their bullpen is worse than the 2007 sox bullpen.

i know both of these are temporary, but i think their return will come a little too late.

Just a thought here. Might not mean anything. The Tigers might take the same path as the Sox.

White Sox

2005 - 99 wins (Won Wold Series)

2006 - 90 wins (Decent season but missed playoffs)

2007 - 72 wins (Horrible season. Unexpected)

Tigers

2006 - 95 wins (Made the World Series)

2007 - 88 wins (Decent season but missed playoffs)

2008 - (???)

Tigers offense is slow out of the gate and their bullpen sucks. Same as the Sox last year. I know. I know. It's early. I don't think the Tigers offense will slump like the Sox did last year. Then again, I was shocked the Sox offense sucked last year. Who knows? Baseball is weird. I just wanted to make this observation.

i have the indians winning the division, i think they're a much bigger threat than the tigers.

I have the Tribe winning the central as well. Tigers will hit, but who knows how much of a hole they will have dug themselves into. I had Detroit winning the wild card, but as somebody else said in another thread, from what I've seen so far it will not take the Sox 95 wins to make the playoffs. 90 or 91 victories might sneak in with the wild card.

Done!

That is 15-8 over the next 23 games Mitch. I expect them to have at least 3 more losses this week if not more.

I know it seems easy to come back from this bad start, it puts you in a really difficult spot.

Just a couple of points I read over at whitesoxinteractive: If it takes 95 wins to win this division, that allows for 67 losses. Under such a scenario the Tigers have already blown through more than 10% of their allotment.

Reading a Tiger message board I found that only two WS Champs in the last decade had a losing streak of 7 or more games. Most did not eclipse a 5 game streak over an entire season.

It does not get easier on the Tigers as they take are in Boston and Chicago for the next 5 games.

The most recent to do this? The 2005 White Sox. That 3HR game against Randy Johnson snapped that 7 game skid.

Food for thought:

No team who has started 0 - 7 has EVER made the postseason in the history of the MLB.

I remember watching that game over margaritas with my wife at the bar area of Lalo's in Glenview.

Ahhh, yes, I agree . . . 2005!

I remember that game too. Pretty sure it was a Sunday.

I was with your wife later that day. We were still celebrating the victory.

Tigers are currently 11-15. Lot of pressure on the Tigers to win tonight at Yankee Stadium.
