No disrespect meant, and my condolences to Farmer for the loss of his mother-in-law, but can we keep Farmer out the rest of the year? I'm impressed with Rongey's call (then again, Farmer is so bad, anyone would have been an improvement). |

I didn't know Ranger was doing the game. I'll check him out. |

Ranger is a little stiff and robotic with his delivery. Seems a little nervous. I'm giving him a break. First time doing it. He's trying not to screw up so that's why it's a little stiff. Technically he is pretty sound. He's dropping the score and count enough times. It's not bad Ranger. Better than anything Singleton ever did. Congrats on your first MLB broadcast Ranger!!! Save the score card. |

Rongey is no Ed Farmer, his stories are great, I could listen to them 10000 times over, maybe I have, but he is a HOF announcer. |

Caught a couple of innings. Not too bad for a first time out. Ranger seemed a little bit deliberate, but that's probably from not being accustomed. Good radio voice, especially for a play by play guy. Hopefully he gets a few more shots down the line in more favorable circumstances. |

haters! i love ed farmer. i listen to just about every broadcast - with varying degrees of attentiveness - and i already feel like stone/farmer is shaping up to be just as great as rooney/farmer was. that said, ranger did a great job tonight. hat-tip to you, if you read this. really enjoyed the call, despite the outcome. |

You must get your radio closed-captioned, because there's no way in hell you could love his broadcasting. |

Indeed I listened and was impressed. He meshed in well, the only weird thing I noticed was there was a longer pause then I'm used to between the announcer doing the "here's the pitch" and the announcer calling if it was a ball or a strike. Maybe it's an experience thing that announcers start their "here's the pitch" later since they're on radio so it can sync up with the ball/strike call more smoothly. Heck I guess it could have just been the umpire didn't get the call out quickly, but I couldn't tell since it was radio. Either way it wasn't a big deal, just something that sprung to mind listening. |

Paruch is doing White Sox weekly. He said Ranger will be calling the rest of this weekend series while Farmer is in California. Condolences to the Farmer family. |

I flipped it on after the Cub game and I agree with the above. Ranger did a good job. I wonder how he felt when he answered the phone and found out he would be doing play-by-play? I'm sure no one was happier to have Stoney in the booth than Ranger. Can you imagine Singleton and Ranger doing a broadcast? And yes, best to the Farmer family. |

I disagree. I think this is real bad. If I was the Sox, I would try to drop Farmer at the end of the season, and find someone else, if Stone is in it for the long run. Ranger sounds bad, seems lost. |

Jeez. Give him a break. He was thrown into this with no practice. He's doing fine and could only get better. |

Wow Ranger, you almost called a no hitter in your 2nd MLB game. Was the pressure eating at you to make the final out sound good? |

There wasn't much pressure regarding Floyd but I was wondering what I might say if it happened. The whole thing has been fun the last two days though I wish it were under different circumstances. I still have plenty of improvements to make, however that schmitty dude is right. I was lost. Walked into the Tigers booth by mistake. |

You did better today. Ya know, I think a lot of announcers write out what they're gonna say for no hitters and such. That's what I would do. After the 6th or I'd have a script prepared. Stone has never broadcasted a no hitter. Last Cubs one was in the early 70's I think. Well before he was in the booth. Would have been funny that you and Stone each do your first together. 2 games vs 2000 games. Good for you Ranger. You can put this on your resume. I'll bet you're the Sox "play by play" guy one day. |

Ranger, Friday's game was a brutal one to start with. Nothing really positive from the Sox point of view, a few runs but nothing overly exciting by the Tigers, and shitty weather. You drew a tough assignment for game one. Didn't catch but an inning or 2 total, but what I heard was pretty good all in all. |

Unless maybe Stone called an opponent throwing a no hitter against the Cubs. But I'm pretty sure he hasn't. Cubs fans? Can you confirm this? |

They were one-hit in the first game of a double header some time in the mid-90s. Mark Grace had the only hit, a single. I have no idea how I remember that, but it is keeping me from remembering other, more important information. |

There we go, bigfan. The Cub can put up a statue for that. |

You seem to have a lot of anger towards a team that has absolutely nothing to do with your favorite team, besides from playing them 6 times a year. I suggest you'll live a happier, fuller life if you let your irrational hatred of all things Cub go. |

Thanks, but read the 35thSt's statue thread that bigfan commented in and you'll understand my comment more. |

Goes for him too. His irrational hatred doesn't make yours any more rational. |
