You guys realize his 8 homers leads the American League?

I have been telling people that he will start to suck soon. I'm not so sure now.

Anyway, nice acquisition Kenny.

Right. That's why it's such a great move.

a.) Got him for nothing.

b.) He's not making any money.

See, these are the moves that make a great GM. Every GM can sign the big free agent if the owner lets him spend. The Quentin moves are the ones that make a great GM. You need to find inexpensive guys that produce.

Kenny also did this with Dye, Iguchi and A.J in 2005. They weren't as cheap as Quentin but they were relatively cheap free agents that nobody else wanted.

You can't always clearance shop though. Kenny has fallen in love with the clearance rack at times. You still need a stud or two to win a championship.

I know. But it's not like we have a nothing pay roll. It's top 5. A lot of guys are making good money. We signed our own free agents. Dye, A.J, Konerko, Buehrle. He tried for Tori Hunter and most people agree it wasn't worth going 18 million per year. Maybe not even worth the 15 million a year they did offer.

And once he wants the money, the sox will either trade him or let him become a free agent.

One day frank will come up with a argument that doesnt involve the cubs, it is so dysfunctional.

Pot, meet kettle. One day maybe you will come up with a lucid thought that it not a shot at the White Sox or Kenny Williams. Highly unlikely, but I suppose its possible.

Frankly, you have no credibility with a name and avatar like that. Also, Frank brings up a good point about a GM who whipped out the checkbook to get the "stud" free agent and it turned out to be a terrible idea. Doesnt matter if its the Cubs or not, its a great example.

No. Not if you still have the pressure to win. The Pirates GM can get away with it. Cuz his owner doesn't care to win. He'll still be fired after a while so he can show Pirate fans he cares. Make the GM a scapegoat.

C'mon. How great is the Yankees GM for signing AROD? They're the only team that was willing to pay him 25 million per year. Doesn't make the GM great.

It's not like you say "Man, that yankees GM really saw something in AROD. He really knows talent."

No shit. Every poor GM wishes they had that money to work with.

carlos quentin's ba/bip is .273 so far, not counting today's game. ba/bip is a good measure of "luck," and his luck has been neutral, which tells you the numbers are real. he'll k/bb at a 1.5:1 rate, just as he did in the minors, just as he's doing now. he projects to be a far more valuable hitter than chris b. young does, which makes for two steals from the d'backs (vasquez being the other) with little of what we sent back being useful for that team (aside from young). i'm into it.

THe Sox traded one of their top prospects, Chris Carter, for him. Arizona then traded him to Oakland in the Danny Haren trade.

Ok. I guess before the season, Carlos Quentin would have been considered a prospect. Now he's leading the AL in homers.

I'll take your word, although I never heard of Chris Carter as a top prospect. Even if he was I'll take the trade.

I agree with you, it was a good trade for the Sox.

While maybe he was top Sox prospect, he was a single A player.

The prospect part of him was he is a really big guy and the "if he puts it all together" tag was put on him.

Az traded him to Oakland then

There were several media outlets proclaiming this a steal for the D-backs at the time of the trade. Quentin was a 5 tool player but was damaged goods. Also the D-backs are stacked with young OF so he would not have gotten his shot...but the Sox did trade value for value.

This is just another example of the Kenny Williams genius that we all are witness to. Best current GM in Chicago!
