After seeing the pink shit hanging from several chins yesterday...I think enough is enough. Play some freakin baseball already. I like / liked Swisher...but his "act" seems to be becoming "gimmicky" at best. Stop worrying about the color of your facial hair & get a hit...make a play...etc... I realize one does not relate to the other...but it is bugging me. |

The facial hair was colored yesterday because of Mother's Day. Yeah, forget breast cancer cure/research fundraising lets just DBag the Sox players for dying facial hair. |

I'll give them a break for mother's day/breast cancer pink, but Swisher's dumbass act got old for me before the end of week 2 of the season. That ad on Comcast where he gestures as if he's shooting guns has to go to. For people in some neihborhoods in this city, idea of guys shooting guns is not funny. So far he has been nothing but a camera and microphone hoe. |

Boy, I hope Hawk doesn't read these threads. He has the biggest mancrush on Swisher. |

Agreed. But when every media person bent over backwards trying to tell how good a guy he is, you just knew it was going to be "uh-oh" time-quickly. This moth's (baseball)goodwill ran out a long time ago, but the good guy angle is still getting this clown pushed. |

I always laugh at these battle for cures. They wont find a cure for cancer, diabteses or anything, because they are money makers. To me, its a giant waste of time. [/quote] |

Those of you who read Moneyball will remember the tale of Beane vs KW poker game in the year when Swisher was getting drafted. Both had a bad mancrush on him. The interesting part though was a quote from one of A's scouts: "Oh, he's noticeable... he won't shut up." |

He gaves good soundbites in the spring and became the media darling of the 2008 White Sox. His poor on field performance will not get as much press because he might get mad at the media for pointing out his sub par start and they lose the quality soundbites. Notice who hasn't been talking? Crede. Not that he was ever a quote machine, but with free agency coming up, he's been as quiet as a church mouse and letting his bat speak for itself. OPS above 800, hitting about 250. He's in line for a nice deal if he can get that average up a hair and get to 20 HRs |

I understand the cause...it just seems like these guys are more concerned about dying their facial hair. I know if they were winning every game, this would be seen as some great team-bonding "blah-blah-blah"...but I am just getting a little annoyed by it all. Play baseball and shut up about your fucking image already. |

Swisher is playing out of position and in a completely different part of the batting order. Everyone should calm down. |

He's been batting in the 6 hole for the last 2 weeks Dolphin. I don't think playing center field means that you should forget how to hit. He'll probably come out of it. He'll end up at .250 with a .385 OBP. It doesn't look like he's gonna hit the 30 homers I thought he would. I don't think he'll even get 40 doubles. He has 26 hits right now. 3 homers, 3 doubles, 1 triple. That's the disapointing part. I don't want a .250 singles hitter. |

While I agree with Beardown's projections and disappointment, I've never suggested that anyone panic, I just wish he'd shut up once in awhile. |

That wouldn't make for very good theater though. |

. There are much different demands/expectations placed on the leadoff hitter than what he was accostomed to in the lower middle of the lineup. CF is probably the second most physically demanding position on the field behind C...and he is new to it. I would expect it to take a toll on him physically and end up affecting his power numbers. I expect and expected more from him, but he is not really being used properly. Next year he can go back to RF. I see this year as him taking one for the team. |

You act like he's running down all 27 outs of every game in center field. Ya know Dolphin, sometimes a couple days go by where he doesn't have to make a great running catch in center. He does get some "can of corn" outs. I really don't think playing center field is "physically demanding" for a 27 year old. That's a stretch. He runs down a few balls. He catches his breath. He sits in the dugout for half of the 3 hour games. It's no big deal. He hasn't lead off in 2 weeks. |

Don't be confused Nas. Despite the fact that Dolphin is black he wouldn't be making these excuses for a black center fielder. |

Bobby Dernier never let day baseball, playing center field, or leading off affect his production at the plate. |

For the record...I am a Cubs fan. I think since I started this post about the stupid facial hair...Swisher shaved the next day...and the Sox have not lost since. I'm not sure about the other players & their possible obsession with the color of their facial hair as I do not pay that close of attention to the team. But what the fuck? They just keep winning. I'm considering taking full credit for their focused effort & recent success. |
