The fallout from Ozzie Guillen's Sunday rant about the White Sox's hitting may have claimed a longtime friendship when he mentioned Greg Walker among the potential casualties. Walker, the Sox's hitting coach for five years, spent Monday meeting with board Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and barely concealed his displeasure toward Guillen, his Sox teammate for nearly all of the 1980s. (from the Trib) This doesn't surprise me one bit. While the hitters have sucked, Walker can only do so much since they are older hitters. He's done a reasonably good job making BA and Alexei into competent hitters. I'm sure Walker wasn't happy at all to hear his name in that rant and being a good ole boy from georgia, I'm sure he'd love to take Ozzie in the back and whip his ass. |

Walker hates working for Ozzie, although you will never hear that publicly. |

Sodomy is illegal in Geogia... All in all, it's highly likely that Ozzie's rants have cost him a few friendships over the years. Ultimately, they amount to little but hurt feelings. |

Contrary to what the Sox have tried to popularize, it was often reported that Ozzie was not well liked by teammates. Frank hated him and that played a role in what transpired when Ozzie became manager. |

Well the Big Hurt was not the most likeable guy either. |

If your hitting sucks year after year, I have to wonder what a hitting coach is for though. |

That was the only thing that struck me with the Ozzie rant at the time. Him calling out Walker. I never thought he was calling out Kenny. So what? Walker doesn't like Ozzie. No big deal. Reinsdorf isn't gonna fire either. Kenny still likes Ozzie. Plus, Mariotti wrote that the Sox should fire Ozzie. Right there you know it won't happen. Kenny and Jerry would never do something right after Jay suggests it. Ozzie is safe for the season. Plus they're in first place for the love of God. |

Ozzie's rant addressed every newspaper story that was out last week - including Walker. Walker's sensitivity would imply that he's feeling some heat - more so than during other slumps - but I'm pretty sure nothing will come out of it. |

The time for a Sox employee to be worried about his job is not when Ozzie speaks negatively but when Hawk speaks negatively. Hawk is the media mouthpiece for Reinsdorf. Hawk has spoke glowingly of Walker this year, so I have no doubt his job is safe. |
