Not sure how he fits into the staff right now, unless someone is hurt and it hasn't been disclosed.

I had a buddy text me about this as well. The pitching has been great, so this move makes no sense to me unless there is a trade in the works.

He'll be the long man in the bullpen. KW is just protecting himself against an injury to the staff. Jose might go on the 2 week DL at some point. Good move. Didn't cost much I'm sure.

Wasserman will be sent down probably.

THE MEXICAN PITCHING RECORD!

It's either Wasserman or Masset going to AAA. The only reason I threw Massett down is if they want to make him a starter and commit to it. Wasserman is more likely.

Looking at AAA, the pitching down there is horrible outside of Broadway Rusell and Childers. Ohka is 1-8 with a 5.37 ERA. Haegar is 3-4 with just below a 5 ERA. Matt Anderson (former tigers 1) is 0-0 with a 5.60 ERA. Mike Macdougal is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA and a WHIP of 2.10

Well, at least MacDougal is consistent in his numbers from the Sox to AAA.

They should put Buehrle in the pen to work out his problems the way Jose did last year. He's been the weak link in the starting 5.

You can never have too much pitching, although Im not sure what Loiza brings to the table really, or how much he has left. Like Beardown said, it was probably cheap. Most likely an inconsequential move, certainly not a bad one.

I don't understand the Esteban Loaiza signing, let alone what number he'll wear. If I'm not mistaken, the Jerry "The King" Lawler-looking Don Cooper actually sports #21 as the Pitching Coach. Other than that, I have to think that Erran Wasserman could be headed back to Triple "A" Charlotte or Nick Masset could be on his way out of Chicago altogether. While Wasserman still has Minor League options left, Masset is out of options and the White Sox could lose him altogether if he's waived. Those are the two pitchers I have to think are now on shaky ground.

You can never have too much veteran pitching. He'll be insurance and suck up innings from the pen.

Jesse reported this and it crossed my mind too. Masset has earned the trust of the Sox. They'll use him more in the 6th, 7th and 8th if Linebrink and/or Dotel need a break. Masset was the long guy now Loaiza takes that spot.

There is really no down side to this.

this is part of the kenny williams genius.
sign loiza to trade him at the deadline for some teams "junk" pitcher.
said pitcher then dominates in the playoffs....

it's so perfect...almost like deja-vu or some shit.

I agree with you on Masset.

I was shocked to see others suggest he might be cut. Has no one been watching games this year. Masset has been impressive in key situations and has a great strikeout to walk rate and strikeout to innings pitched.

Wasserman is really the only weak link and he has plenty of options left.

Well, that was brief. Guess Steve-o doesn't want to fight this fight any longer.

The official White Sox webpage reports that the team is expected to release Esteban Loaiza prior to Friday's game.

The team had been unhappy with his conditioning, and wasn't pleased that he could only reach the low 80s on the radar gun. As a ten-day experiment, having Loaiza pitch in mop-up situations didn't hurt, but the Sox clearly feel he no longer has his best stuff. Adam Russell will likely be called up to take his place.

That sucks. I would have at least sent him down for a couple of weeks to see if he could get back to form. They are most likely going to be in a playoff race and its worth it to have him around even if it is for one good start down the stretch.

He must have said or done something to piss the wrong people off. Good news is they brought Russell up. He's fun to watch and has a good future.

Wasn't Russell the closer for Charlotte? Does this mean Massett is demoted back to long man?

It's believed Loaiza has a sore shoulder, and was placed on the 15 day DL prompting Adam Russell's call-up from Triple "A" Charlotte prior to tonight's Interleague game vs. Colorado at U.S. Cellular Field.
