Well, White Sox fans...Now that Alexei Ramirez has wrestled away the starting second base job, what would you do now with Juan Uribe? He's been back on the active roster for about 2 weeks or so, fully recovered from a hamstring injury suffered in Anaheim. Ramirez has literally torn the cover off the baseball at the plate and has flashed some solid leather at second, yet Uribe remains stuck on the bench. He can't even come to games anymore as a defensive replacement, as Pablo Ozuna has come in to play second late in 2 of the Sox games pretty much in hand with Ramirez shifting over to short. I think Uribe is on borrowed time here in Chicago, and he's definitely become expendable. I know they tried to waive him during Spring Training, and I think he has since cleared. |

You need a couple of backups. He'll hang around for a bit because he can play 2nd, ss, and 3rd. But barring injury he won't start more than a game or 2 a month. |

Could be a PH against the NL teams too. |

He is the Sox top backup at 3rd, short and 2nd. That should give him 2-3 starts per week in the second half of the season. If he accepts this role he has a valuable role on this team in the second half...not 4.5 million in value but that is already a sunk cost. |

They are paying him over $4 million a season, and even though Ramirez looks really good, he also looks really skinny. We don't know, without a track record, if he'll keep up his level of play and/or wear down as the season progresses. At this point, Uribe is a backup IF, primarily at SS and 2B, and is probably Ozzie's insurance policy against Ramirez going bad. At least he can play defense, if he does get extended playing time again. |

I think Ozunu is more of their primary backup at 3B, but Uribe can also play there. |

Uribe is a far better fielder. In a logical world, Ozuna's only role on this team now is as a pinch hitter. Ozzie is not logical. |

I'm not so sure about Uribe's fielding, let alone his lack of patience at the plate. I thought he was going to be sent packing following 2 base running blunders earlier this season in Toronto that ended up costing the White Sox a game they should have won. Something tells me that Juan will be sent packing before the trade deadline, even though he has next to no value right now. When you see Pablo Ozuna ahead of Juan at second in a game the Sox have in hand for defensive purposes, that tells me how far he has fallen out of favor. I won't be shocked one bit if Uribe is part of a package before the trade deadline. Honest. |
