While Joe Crede is expected to rejoin the White Sox next week when they come home, Josh Fields is NOT ready to become the team's full time third baseman next season. Since his call-up, Josh's defense has been tentative at best & he keeps striking out at the plate. You may have noticed Juan Uribe in the 8th inning Friday night at third, and #5 started Saturday afternoon's game there before moving over to second at the end of today's 9-7 loss in Kansas City. While his offensive stats are nowhere near Crede or as potent as Fields, Uribe's glovework has been very good when called upon. It's the glovework that makes me ponder Uribe actually coming back to the Southside next season, NOT at second base or shortstop, but at third base.

Juan Uribe will not be the starting 3B for the White Sox, but, at least while Fields is playing 3B, will play late inning defense.

Fields is still the 3B of the future, but this has not been a very good season for him.

By this headline and recent trade history, I thought the Sox were considering bringing in Edgar Martinez. :P

It turns out Josh Fields will be here a little while longer due to Joe Crede's continuing back ailment, but it doesn't mean we've seen the last of Juan Uribe at third base. Crede's back stiffness prevented him from playing a couple of rehab games over the weekend for Triple "A" Charlotte. You would think that Crede's free agent value is decreasing every day he doesn't play due to his back, but agent Scott Bora$ will find some sucker, I mean team, to sign Joe to a big money contract. Just ask Magglio "Get a Haircut" Ordonez...

That worked out for Detroit pretty well, right?

I think Joe Crede will be the White Sox starting 3rd baseman on opening day 2009.

its not a bad option defensivly but i fear his high strikeout numbers. fields will strike out alot but can hit about 30 homeruns. i may be wrong but fields is also a bit cheaper

You might be right, especially with Joe's back being a potential "buyer beware" for teams...Then again, Scott Bora$ is his agent...

Even when Mags was injured, the Sox still had thier biggest monetary offer to one player ever (at the time) on the table for him and he walked away. It was clearly about money with him and not about winning.

I suppose it has worked out OK for Detroit in the long run, but I cannot argue with who the Sox replaced him with. Especially considering Mags was hurt again for much of 2005, and JD, while not putting up some of the numbers Mags does, has gotten himself a couple of nice pieces of hardware.
