Um...

Under his watch, the Sox have won a World Series and have had the potential of making the postseason twice, while being in one of the tougher divisions in baseball.

He doesn't deserve this why?

Miss a lot on Griffey.
Miss a little on Swish
Too much too long for Konerko
Too much reliance on dye and Thome power, didn't prepare this year for the formula that won them the WS
2006, 2007, and apparantly 2008 turned out to be very disappointing.
I don't like the way he flamed Thomas. To me that lost him a ton of respect with me.
Missed on some big FA's this off season.

But is there anyone better then him available? I can't say.

1 losing season in the past 8 years. The Sox haven't been that consistent since the 60's. Like him or not, he's right more than he's wrong and he's the best GM the south side has had in a long time.

Darkman, you're right. He has missed on some moves. But there is also moves that have worked out great..

Dye replacing Mags in RF
AJ
turning Brandon McCarthy into John Danks and Griffey
Gavin Floyd
Linebrink
Jenks
Quentin
Alexi
Pablo Ozuna (who was great as the 5th IF in '05)
El Duque
Contrares

Every year outside of '07, the Sox have had the talent to win the division. Maybe its not as much small ball as Ozzie would like, but he (and Manuel for the most part) have had the horses to take the division crown. The players simply have not executed. You have proven, verteran hitters/sluggers in Dye, Thome, and Konerko who went a combined 6-36 or something like that this past Minnesota series. I don't know how you blame the GM for that.

Kenny has made some questionable moves, but he's also made some excellent ones, and he is the only baseball GM to bring a World Series to Chicago in the past 9 decades. I see nothing wrong with him gettin an extension. I put this collaspe solely on the lack of execution of the players, and not nescessarily the GM. He takes part of the blame, but not all of it. This series probaly would have a looked a lot different if Quentin were in the lineup and Contreras could have gone on Tuesday.

I can understand the frustration with Thome/Dye/Konerko, but that's the roster best suited to U.S. Cell/home run hitting park. If we played in the Metrodome, then it'd be a different roster. Konerko's contract was, in fact, a sizeable home-town discount at the time after the '05 World Series; the Swisher move seemed like a reach at the time and it's proved to be; Griffey, on the other hand, was a low-risk move, and it's provided relatively low benefits, so nothing lost on that one.

It amazes me how, if the Sox miss the postseason, people will call this season a failure for Kenny. I think he put them in a pretty good position to win, and they simply haven't executed well down the stretch. We'll see if they can pull out a miracle this weekend or beyond.

Here's the bottom line guys. They have played the last week or so basically like I expected them to play all season. Certainly the bar had been raised, but I had the Sox pegged for about 83 wins and missing the playoffs. This team has wasted dozens of chances at the plate, and countless solid outings by starting pitchers. They simply did not execute in crunch time, and do not deserve to be in the playoffs.

Right on Darkside! Didn't the Sox have the best record in the '90's. They have made the playoffs twice in 8 years!

The 90s was Schuler. KW came on at the tail end of 2000. If you're gonna make a point, get your facts right.

Darkisde, Ozzie and Kenny share some of the blame, but the players have to execute. They had several chances to win last nite and Tuesday and couldn't do it. Blackburn was throwing watermelons up there, and the Sox didn't do anything with them. The horses were in place, they just ran a shitty, terribly race.

Then they were bad horses. If the talent is there, then it's the manager. If the talent isn't there, then it's the GM. You can't just say "the players are all great, they just suck now."

Well thats the truth, sort of. The players did suck this past series, esepcially the offense.

This collapse is a team failure from top to bottom, no question. But in my eyes, the players shoulder more blame than the GM or Ozzie.

The thing I cannot understand, is Ozzie keeps saying how he respects the Pirhanas and he would love to steal bases, hit and run, squeeze. But he doesn't have that kind of team. He has a station to station, Home Run hitting team. WHY???? Doesn't his GM listen to him? Why, after he hired Ozzie, did he add Thome, keep Konerko, add Griffey ? He should have been adding guys who could play the way Ozzie wants to play, if he intended to keep Ozzie as the manager. I like Kenny a lot. I think the Carlos Quentin and Alexi Ramirez trade and signing, were brilliant. He's gonna have a great chance to overhaul this team in the off-season. I am going to be very interested to see if he gets more players capable of playing Ozzieball-manufacturing runs and playing great defense. You look at the Twins and you just know that Ozzie would love to manage that team. That's his kind of baseball. I agree, that in U.S. Cellular having some pop pays great dividends. But they have to get a better mix. I think Kenny will. He's a good GM.

Hey dumbfuss! I know Kenny has been the GM since 2000. I was just saying in the '90's they had the most wins and won nada. This is a team that had won the Series in 2005 then failed to make the playoffs the next threee years.A mother fuckin shame. How do you describe the 2008 Sox? Chokers, gaggers or bed wetters. You probably think of them as overachievers. I hate to say it but, Sox fans today sound a lot like Cub fans!!!!!!! It's damn Pathetic.

Kenny Williams does deserve an extension, but the timing is a bit strange for this to leak. Why not wait until the season is over?

I believe the only teams in the 90s to have more regular season wins than the Sox are the Yankees and Braves.

What about the Indians?

...and I don't really see how that's a negative. And how does that relate to Kenny Williams? And what the hell am I talking about?

So then we can agree they had the most wins except for those with more wins.

Fine.

What does that have to do with Kenny Williams? And what does that have to do with his contract extension? Please, correlate the 3 happenings.

What division are the Indians in?

So most wins in the 90s (in their own division excluding the Indians)

Being competive is fine with you! When oh great Frank can you see the Boy Genuis taking the Sox back to the World Series?Williams will get by on 2005 Champioship how long in your eyes?
The corellation is they have had winning teams in the past and the GM's haven't been rewarded. Why should they now?

Right, because Ron Schuler was fired?

You keep swinging and missing. Schuler retired. He was never fired or demoted.

Right, Schuler was not fired. And now you claim that he was promoted. 2 posts ago, you said Sox GM's haven't won much, and have never been rewarded. So, according to you, Sox GM's aren't rewarded, but you say the previous GM was promoted? Which is it?

You struck out long ago. Back to ignore..
