Not confirmed, but being reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

wow, I'm surprised that's all they got for him. Bailey was supposed to be a stud, but he hasn't done anything in the big leagues. he's still young so there's still time.

I'm surprised that the Reds would make this move. I would have thought that they are still a few years from contending and rebuilding should be their focus, but Walt Jocketty seems to always make deals that help his team.

Kenny isnt going to give up Dye for a pitcher with stats like his.

He's not trading for Bailey based on his limited stats last season, he's trading for him with the hopes that they can turn him into another productive young pitcher.

Ok you dont trade someone with Dyes stats, abilities, blah blah blah for someone with potential. Unless your really cutting payroll.

Why not? Kenny is obviously doing a make-over of the team, and Dye was in the final year of his contract. One year ago, Bailey was considered to be a top prospect in all of baseball, and, obviously, Williams feels that they can get him going under their system.

Kenny has already stated that he is cutting payroll, but he's trimmed a lot off of it. I would expect the Sox to now have some flexibility to get something done.

Who was the last big free agent Kenny signed? I think they could have got alot more potential than this guy for Dye.

A.J, Dye, Iguchi....but you're probably referring to the combo of Navarro and Albert Belle.

AJ literally had no where to go. He was not in high demand. Iguchi? Really. Dye was coming off a major injury and played well, but he was someone that Kenny took a gamble on. Kenny didnt sign Albert Belle did he?

Jermaine Dye, CWS Dec. 7 - 8:55 pm et

A source told the Dayton Daily News that the White Sox and Reds have completed a swap involving Jermaine Dye and Homer Bailey.
Color us skeptical for now. The Dye-for-Bailey rumors have been going around for some time now, but no one seemed to think the deal was getting done. As lost as Bailey is right now, it'd still be a bad idea for the Reds to part with him for a one-year solution in right field. They'd be spending a good portion of their available funds on a mediocre defense corner outfielder who has averaged fewer RBI per at-bat than Adam Dunn over the course of his career.

I don't think Kenny signed Belle, and, I agree, the Sox don't often make big moves in free agency. That doesn't mean that you can't be successful though.

I would take Dye and what could be next year, over potential with Bailey. The white sox were close last year and faced a hot team with the Rays. Im not sure what to make of this at all. Im more surprised than anything.

If that is the trade it would be.

From MLBTRADERUMORS.COM

Quote:
It'd essentially be six years of Bailey for one of Dye (plus possible draft pick compensation), as Dye has a mutual option for 2010 at $12MM.

They are for sure dumping salary now with swisher, vaszquez and what appears to be dye. They are trying to trade jenks so they dont have to pay him, what other reason do they have? Its not like they someone to take over. I am not saying its a bad thing, kenny has a plan, but its obvious they are going small market way of doing business, its a risk, but it might work, if it doesnt, I am sure they will hear about it.

Schuler signed Belle. KW took over in '01.

Kenny's biggest free agency signings I believe ($$$ wise) were Dye, Linebrink and Dotel).

Most of the better players over the past few years he's acquired were either from out of the country (Iguchi, Ramirez and now Dayan Viciedo) - or
trades - Thome, Quentin, Denks and Floyd.

So why on Earth would a crappy team trade a pitching prospect for an old RF in the last year of his contract?

Looks like someone was a little too quick to pull the trigger on a trade story. That never happens in Chicago...

If this was going to happen, I would have said because Dusty is the manager.

M & H were talking about this trade again this morning so I guess its not dead yet. They were also talking about bringing sweaty Freddy back

Nothing wrong with Sweaty Freddy, my man. As long as he and Ozzie settle their differences, Garcia has a couple decent seasons still left in him before his arm falls off.

The Sox should not bring back Freddy. He had his day here and now it is past.
They could and should do better.
