According to Roger Rubin of the New York Daily News, the White Sox offered a one-year, $8MM deal to free agent outfielder Bobby Abreu. If the Sox are able to sign Abreu, you'd have to think Jermaine Dye or Jim Thome would be traded. Abreu has also been linked recently to the Braves, Mariners, Dodgers, and Giants. |

You can never have enough good players so if they can get Abreu this cheap I'm all for it. I do have to wonder why they couldn't offer that $8 mil to Garland? A starting pitcher is a much bigger need than a corner OF/DH. |

Dye is getting older, but he'll still put up solid numbers. Plus, he played a pretty good RF this year. I highly doubt any kind of decent trade would be out there for Thome or Konerko, so I guess moving Dye would be likely, though I don't really understand getting rid of him. |

I'd rather they keep Dye and spend the $8mil on pitching. |

Thome and Konerko have no trade clauses and who is going to want to pay Dye 10-11 million, when they could get Abeau for 7-8, and not have to give up anyone in a trade. Doesn't sound right. I really doubt this happens. Abreau would be a nice upgrade at DH, but I can't see the Sox waiving Thome, to open up that spot. Nor would they sit a guy on the bench that makes that much. Now, if they could get Thome back at 1st base and get Konerko to agree to a trade, now that would be sweet. I doubt it happens though. |

When was the last time he played 1st on a regular basis??? If and this is a BIG if Thome could DH for these teams 1.Oakland 2.Blue Jays 3.M's 4.Rangers Behind Hamilton!! |

I'm not sure how legit the New York Daily News story is concerning Bobby Abreu being offered $8 million for only a year by the White Sox, but if it means trading former World Series MVP Jermaine Dye for pitching help, GO FOR IT! |

Sign Abreu and Keep Dye, and trade Konerko for pitching. |

Konerko is a 5-10 guy, full no trade clause. I'm sure the Sox at least tested the waters with trades for him in the offseason. My guess is the only teams he would approve a trade to would be Arizona, Boston, or Anahiem. |

Well then, I guess thats settled. If only real ball players didn't have no trade clauses and could play different positions well like they do in video games... |

While White Sox GM Kenny Williams refused comment, according to the Trib's Dave Van Dyck, there were negotiations involving Bobby Abreu but a snag in talks occurred. 670 "The SCORE's" Chris Rongey, host of Sox pre & postgame again this season, said in a couple of his updates tonight that the team hasn't made any offer to Abreu. All I can say for sure is stay tuned, Sox fans. |

What a joke....why would any team trade players, prospects, suspects or beer vendors for Dye and his 11.5 million contract when they could sign Abreu for one year at 8 million as has been rumored? Who needs a righthanded batter that didn't hit a home run in his last 94 at bats that badly? It is time the nincompoops at 35th Street built a SOLID FARM SYSTEM and stopped wasting #1 draft selections on clowns like Joe Borchard, Kris Honel and Royce Ring. I know that the brain dead fan base here in Hooterville celebrates Divisional Championships like they actually mean something, but this White Sox team at least is showing signs of dumping salary and developing a long range plan....Took Chairman Reinsdorf about 30 years to realize young talent is the way to go....if he even gets the idea yet. |

So much for the rumor that the Sox offered Abreu a 1yr/$8 mil deal. He signed a 1yr/$5 mil (with incentives) with the Angels. I can not believe he signed that cheaply. http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_s ... -year-deal |

I don't see any way the Sox will be able to move Dye with that contract now (not that I really want to). It looks like it is way above market. |

Is Guerrero only able to DH these days, or could he move to first? Man, as much as we mourn the loss of the Montreal Expos, that shithole park irreparably ruined too many players. Imagine if the Hawk and Vlad never had to play on terrible astroturf. |

Imagine if the Hawk and Vlad never had to play on terrible astroturf. Curious Hair, you are absolutely right about AstroTurf, let alone that just as awful FieldTurf & the cheapo AstroPlay that they have at Tropicana Field for the Tampa Bay Rays & Illinois football team plays on in Champaign! Baseball & football players alike played on some terrible surfaces during the '70s & '80s when many teams played in multi-use stadiums. Not to go too much farther off topic, but I'm still reminded of that piece of shit in Philadelphia when the Bears' Wendell Davis blew out both of his knees on that rock hard surface in 1993 and was never the same! |
