I find it more curious that the White Sox have assigned "Benedict" Crede's old number #24 to Viciedo, and he may not necessarily travel north with the ballclub...

Well, they are all suspect now. However, the guy is from Cuba and I doubt he could afford HGH or Bole on his $8.00 per month salary.
OTOH, he did his post defection 'waiting period' in the Dominican Rep. so I guess he'll always be suspect.

The real question is: Can he pick 'em?

Oh I am sorry, I cannot sign with you for the millions of dollars you have offered me.

Why?

Because you are the enemy of my former employer, the White Sox.

No player ever has, or ever will take HGH in the Sox organization.

No way any Cuban agent might have made sure this kid had everything and more he ever needed. 6% x $10 Mill=$600,000 commission. I would give the kid a few 'loans' to be paid back.

And when he needs to drop the weight, he can just go to the Jose Contreras Do Nothing and Drop 30 Lbs camp and have nobody question it because I told everyone I changed my diet and miracles happened in 5 months.

If he couldn't afford the HGH how the hell could he afford the food and training he would need to put on all of that muscle. Guys that come from there usually look like Alexei not like Thome.

I don't know. Fidel always looked well fed. As did Contreras and El Duque.
Could be the team in Cuba fed him.
Maybe he always had the munchies...

Ha, ha, ha...
Yes, No HGH in any of the Beloved Sox players.
Add Quentin to the list of guys who never used HGH to come back from his Diamondback injuries.

Losing 30 pounds in 5 months is not easy, but hardly a miracle, bigfan.

Who says he was not able to swim in order to lose the weight? You can lose weight by means other than running.

Apparently you know all of Contrares's diet and excercise habits, Nas? I didn't realize you had such an in with the White Sox.

I'm not saying its certain that Jose didn't take anything. All I'm saying is that the fact that he dropped 30 pounds since we last saw him in the field in August is not a big deal. The pool is very common for rehabing injuries of that ilk, but not Jose must have been on something, right? Fuck, maybe he was on Metabolife or something you can buy at GNC that has nothing to do with steriords or ARod's cousin. But I'm wrong and I'm a meatball and you're going to think whatever it is you want to think so who gives a shit.

Dr. Frank,

From the very time I heard that Contreras dropped 30 pounds I was really surprised as I had a torn achilles and put on 10 or so pounds because I did nothing. Swimming is not a 'common' way of rehabbing such injury. I was told to do nothing for at least 3 months, then the doctor would evaluate how things are going.

I think what you fail to admit is how easy it is to drop weight that might not have been put on with the help of a supplement that was not longer being used. All over baseball guys got smaller? However, when it came to your beloved team and the most obvious scenario you bring up all these other things that might have happened. And they might of.

Now Frank, as it is so easy to drop 30 pounds in 5 months without doing any type of running, when will we see you dropping the excess baggage?

The high level of workout with Jose (and El Duque for that matter) is very well known.

I regularly lose 10+ pounds in the six weeks of Lent simply by changing my diet and caloric intake.

I dropped a couple of pounds this morning, with a very short sprint!

That's Jose back in Cuba - nuff said

If you think the Cuban government doesn't supply it's athletes with top of the line designer "tic tacs" than you're flat out naive.

90% of the league is using HGH. but losing 30 lbs off a flabby 6-4" frame is pretty easy. i lost 30 lbs in two months by just doing a blue collar job.

a) I'm pretty sure he wasn't all that flabby - big ass & legs, but that's most MLB pitchers.
b) his mobility is greatly affected by the injury.
c) muscle mass is greater and more likely to atrophy due to inactivity.
d) remember that mysterious velocity drop he experienced due to his (ahem...) "divorce" ?
e) remeber all the Cuban boxers & high jumper & sprinters who got pinched for doping?
f) Doesn't he remind you of Juan Gone in that picture from Cuba?

Yeah, he's squeaky clean. :?

you can't tell me the guy in the cuba picture looks anything like what we saw last year....a fat guy thowing trick pitches to make up for the fact he could hardly hit 90 mph. i think he was probably juicing 3-4 years ago, but if he was last year he wasn't getting his money's worth. moreover, if he WAS juicing last year and is NOT now, I would expect his fastball to top out at about 82 mph. we shall see if that is the case.

I haven't seen any footage or pictures of Jose from this spring, but you can tell which way I'm leaning. :D
If he looks thinner - the way Wilson Alvarez or Alex Fernandez did in their walk years, than it's possible that he just lost weight during the rehab process.
If he looks smaller - the way Pudge did in Detroit, Sammy in Texas & Giambi after the "mysterious gastrointestinal parasite", than he's finally off the juice (& HGH) cause he got scared that his tendons are popping off the bones, which BTW, is another symptom.
