The Houston Chronicle says it has learned that Roy Oswalt would not accept a trade to play for the White Sox.

The Chronicle's Jose de Jesus Ortiz doesn't offer anything at all to back up that statement. He didn't even cite any anonymous sources during his proclamation. Oswalt, of course, does have a full no-trade clause. There has been no indication that the White Sox and Astros were or are close to a deal, though it's believed that the White Sox do have some interest

assuming this is true, how about a new strategy for the white sox...don't try to trade for people who have no trade clauses...

Why is it that no one seems to want to play for the White Sox?

A bit prima-donnaish looking for that perfect scenario. They have the no trade clause, more power to 'em. But the Padres and Astros won't win a goddam thing this year. Maybe the Sox won't either, but they're a hellava lot closer than those 2 clubs. Ken Griffey didn't have any trouble waving his no trade clause.

Ken Griffey was burnt toast, Frank. Who cared with Griffey? Peavy, oswalt... a little higher up the food chain at this time.

You'd think these guys would like to see if they could pitch on the major league level.

I wonder if it's pitching at U.S. Cellular Field that's enough for the likes of Jake Peavy & now Roy Oswalt to say thanks, but no thanks...Then again, Uncle Jerry wants nothing to do with Scott Bora$ either.

Sucks for the Sox that these big name pitchers are turning them down. Does the organization have a bad rep amongst the players?

You need some help.

Penny. No.
Cook. No.
Cain--good pitcher, but doubtful
Halladay. No. Why would the Blue Jays trade him?
Sheets. Are you high?

Only Cain and Halladay are worthwile. If you're giving up anymore than a double A prospect for the rest of them, thats too much.

OSwalt and Peavy are good, but why did we hear about those? Sox trades rarely leak out. All of a sudden, they just happen. Nobody knew about Freddy Garcia, Thome, McCarthy, Griffey, or even Corky Miller until everything was set and official.

Jays won't trade Halladay and if they do who would the Jays want that the Sox have?

For all the crazy shit that Ozzie supposedly says/does, I'm pretty sure the next guy that comes flat out and says "Ozzie is a terrible manager to play for" will be the first.

Did Fred McGriff reject a trade to the cubs because of Ozzie Guillen?

Unfortunately, no. He approved it after a delay.

Is there something troubling about the starting staff over the last 3 weeks that I am not aware of?

If you can get a top of line rotation guy in either Peavy or Oswalt, always room to upgrade

couple of thoughts.

1. KW is looking at his 3 year horizon and all of their top prospects are hitters (except for poreda).
2. He's itchy to make a deal and assuming quentin comes back (BIG assumption), there's no obvious place for a big bat.

Why is that a big assumption? Before the sore foot thru the first 3 weeks of April, he was at or right near the MLB lead in RBIs and HRs.

Dr. Hatchetman, I presume? Did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College?

I understand your point, but lets give him several games once he comes off the DL to see how he performs.

I think the White Sox are viewed as a volatale and risky team to play for. The Manager is a nut job, and the team doesnt draw like large market teams typically do. Eveyone knows that they are second banana to the Cubs..and it isn't even close. The Sox are viewed as a small time tier 2 franchise. Winning a World Series is no indication of the quality of the franchise...see the Florida Marlins & Arizona Diamondbacks.

Frank - Sure we can hope for the best, but this guy's been hurt just about every year of his professional career, including the minors.

John - You're and idiot. There are about four "glamour" franchises (Yanks, BoSox, Dodgers, Cubs). Everyone else is a small time tier 2 franchise.
