. . . . or should I say Bacon. I understand he's batting under .200, but he's growing on me. It was the right decision to promote this kid, because not only is he improving, but he's making Fields better, too.

I believe his OBP is 100 points higher than his BA? That's fairly impressive. He'll take a walk and hit to the right side.

Alexei is definitely an enigma: great play at SS, bunts Pods over, stupid-moronic error, looks horrible trying to advance a runner, game tying hit, and on, and on, and on!

Can Bacon stay at 3B and hone his skills at that position?

Beckham is going to be just fine. Leave him at 3B for the rest of this year, but then IMO you move him to SS and put Alexei back at 2B. Alexei played a really solid 2B, but he makes too many mistakes at SS.

The Cubs and Sox have played 4 games so far this year..... you put his "good plays" in your column, I'll put his "bad plays" in my column.

Which side do you think his +/- is gonna fall in. Please, please, for the love of god, stop with the Beckham love until a little something on a somewhat consistent basis.

He scored the game tying run in the 8th and had the game winning hit in the 9th. My column and Gordon Beckham love runneth over.

For this game, your cup "runneth" 2-1 for Mr. Bacon.

He had 2 errors plus 3rd "should have been an error" in 1 game at Wrigley, and his hitting cup runneth "dry". Ease up on the Beckham love.

I'll 'ease up' as soon as I'm done writing his Hall of Fame speech. Is it spelled A-s-c-a-i-n-o??

+1. Who plays 3B then? Give Fields another chance or does the long awaited arrival of Chone Figgins comes to fruition?

That was uncalled for on my part.

It's actually spelled e-r-r-o-r. Sorry for the mis-information.

He's a rookie who should still be in the minors. He's been promoted because Fields is a pile of crap.

3B is not his natural position.

I'd say he's doing OK for now, considering the circumstances. And the best is yet to come.

Jesus Fucking Christ is playing 3B for the Sox, according to what I've heard/read. And he's hitting sub-200, yet he's here because of his hitting. And he can't catch the damn ball. On the rare occasion he does catch it, he throws it to a fan.

But whatever makes you feel better.......

I used words like "ok" and "fairly impressive" to describe Beckham. How you associate those words with Jesus Christ is beyond me? But, whatever makes you happy.

I've seen him "catch the damn ball" more then he's missed the "damn ball."

He is learning 3rd base at the MLB level. Far be it for Cubs fans to cut him some slack. "My god!", he did have an error today. But, he also scored the tying run, and drove in the winning run.

I'll take the latter over the former.

My concern is what kind of a stupid assed organization takes a kid and moves him to 3B in the Minors for all of 2 weeks and then calls him up to the Bigs.

The White Sox are famous for having Stiffs who can't play a lick of defense all over the place, and their sorry excuse for a farm system isn't known as one that teaches anybody much.

Maybe this will change under Buddy Bell, bit wuth Crazed Kenny rushing guys to the Bigs without a position, who knows?

I have no use for Fields. I think they should look at Figgins in Free Agency or really anyone else. But an infield of Figgins, Beckham, Alexei, and Konerko would be just fine IMO.

I would move Alexei back to 2B where he had a nice year last year and put Beckham at SS. IMO the Alexei SS experiment is not going well and I think Ozzie is seeing that as well.

Normally I would agree, you make changes now. But the fact that Beckham is such a young rookie, I think you let him continue to get used to the big leagues and leave him alone with what you have started. Also, if you make the changes now then you gotta go with Fields at 3B again and I do not think anyone wants to go that route. The smart move is to wait til the offseason, and make the changes and bring in a 3B.

And this confirms once again that Halfpint is not smart.

I always like to think of weird sports quirks. I think I thought of one that nobody else has. I'm pretty sure Beckham did something no other ball player has ever done.

His first 2 career homeruns were in the same state but in different cities. Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Interleague play has made this more likely. I guess somebody could have done in the national league cuz they have 3 NL teams in California. Maybe it was done in New York when the NL had the Giants and the Dodgers there. Somebody look it up. Beckham might have been the first.

By the way, Beckham is gonna be a .320+ hitter for at least 10 years.

That means a lot coming from a guy that said the Sock would win more than 110 games in 2006.

When Beckham gets settled in, where in the order do you see him batting?

I think he should be batting 2nd in the line up right now. Eventually he'll be a 3 hitter cuz your best hitter should always bat 3. He'll be a 25-30 homerun guy. That and a .320+ average means you should bat 3rd.

Unless he hooks up with PooHoles trainer, he will not his 30 HR's. Those days are ohvaaa...

At the cell 30 isn't a reach for him. Uribe was good for 20 and he hit .230.

Depends how he wants to go. He could sacrafice that average a little and hit 35. I'd rather him not do that and hit 25.
