The pitching matchups are definitely in Detroit's favor. Sox need to find a way to split this series.

The Sox have traditionally owned Verlander, but I expect them to come out without enthsiasm this afternoon after a celebratory plane ride yesterday...but, it seems like most double headers end in a split.

I think the Sox win one today and Floyd outduels Jackson in a great game on Saturday.

As bad as the pitching matchups are for the Sox, remember, the Sox are to the Tigers what the Twins are to the Sox...and the sox have been especially dominant in Detroit.

Verlander, career wise, has been bad (something like a 5.00+ ERA) against the Sox, but he has mixed in some very successful outings.

You are correct though - the Sox have played very well up there.

Dewayne Wise will be leading off in Game 1 of today's day-night doubleheader in Detroit, but Ramon Castro's not in the starting lineup with Jose Contreras working the opener. Here's Ozzie Guillen's batting order, White Sox fans:

CF 31 Dewayne Wise
SS 10 Alexei Ramirez
RF 23 Jermaine Dye
DH 25 Jim Thome
1B 14 Paul Konerko
C 12 Anthony John Pierzynski
LF 20 Carlos Quentin
2B 17 Chris Getz
3B 15 Gordon Beckham

That's a pretty cool move by Ozzie.

I agree with that, and if I remember correctly, Keyser, Wise made quite a catch earlier this season in Detroit. Unfortunately for #31, he separated his shoulder. :(

No issue with that lineup. We had to guess that Guillen would give Podsednik a rest in one of these games.

I've got to think Scott Podsednik will be back in there for the night portion of the day-night doubleheader, and Ramon Castro likely catches Bartolo Colon, even though Ramon & Jose Contreras had done a good job as the battery before Sunday's loss to Baltimore. I also wouldn't be shocked if either Gordon Beckham or Alexei Ramirez get a rest in favor of Jayson Nix sometime this weekend...

Sox are getting A LOT of opportunities against Verlander. They better start cashing in on them soon.

3 runs so far, but still another pretty solid outing by Contreras.

Post subject:  Re: soxs/tigers

The defense has let the White Sox down the last couple of innings, but three straight hits have loaded the bases in the top 9th with the Tigers up 5-1...

It's over...Tigers 5, White Sox 1 in Game 1 of two... :( The Sox loaded the bases, but Gordon Beckham hit into a double play, the beginning of the end...The Sox had their chances, but got little to show for it.

Bartolo Colon starts Game 2 vs. Eddie Bonine (?) As Jimmy Piersall used to say, "Who the hell is he?" :?

This puts a lot of pressure on Colon in the 2nd game of the doubleheader. Too bad they can't have a hot dog eating contest to determine the winner.

With Miggy Cabrera in the Tigers' dugout, is that really a good idea?

If the Sox are losing after 7 they will not comeback, a big weakness

:?:

They scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th on Wednesday night to come back against the Rays and win.

Geez it's great Dewayne's catch saved the perfect game, but to start him in both ends of a double header Ozzie your nuts!

What a letdown! The White Sox get swept by the Tigers in this day-night doubleheader, losing 5-1 in Game 1 and losing Game 2 4-3, thanks to a bases loaded walk in the bottom 8th! :x Want more? You're getting Chris Rose & Mark Grace TOMORROW when the White Sox & Tigers are the "FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week"! Chris Rose?! Is that the best FOX Sports could get?
