I have a hard time believing that a GM as budget conscious as Williams is going to put a claim in on a guy making as much money as Rios just to keep him away from Detroit, who I don't even believe would have taken on that contract themselves. I'm guessing that Williams, knowing he had money to spend this off-season, didn't think he was going to get a better player than Rios, and made the move.

I love this move. I went on the record hoping they made a trade for him before the deadline. He is a young guy that is about to enter his prime. His contract isn't outrageous. He is a career .285 hitter that can steal bases. Dye isn't going to be productive forever and may not be back. You also can't count on Pods to have another year like he is having now. The Sox did that in the past and it bit them in the ass. Another great move by Kenny. He keeps showing why he is the best GM this city has.
