I have a serious question to ask... With the team obviously quitting on the 2009 season, the hefty Alex Rios contract (with no return on investment so far), the sack of shit closer we have (and hopefully will trade), the constant ass-licking of the Twins by Ozzie and the perceived notion that the Sox will be hamstrung financially in 2010, how much time should we really invest in this team? It sounds like the makeup of this year's team will be the same as next year's and that is scary. This team can't hit, can't field, can't run the basepaths as currently constructed, so how will they be so much better in 2010? |

IF Peavy could stay healthy for all of 2010 and Buehrle, Danks and Floyd all stayed healthy and had good seasons...yes, the Sox can contend. Pitching is the #1 reason a team wins/loses and with those 4, the team COULD be good. Obviously they have some question marks. Is Pods the DH next year? The left fielder-with Quentin going to right? Can Carlos Quentin stay healthy? Will Rios ever hit? Is it time to trade Jenks? If so, is Thornton really closer material? There are big problems with their defense. But pitching can often pitch around some problems and if they hit enough... But Kenny certainly should go after at least 1 big bat. He could be just a DH and they could have Pods, Rios and Quentin in the outfield. Or he could ideally be an outfielder to add to the Rios/Quentin mix. But certainly, with only those two as guys likely to start in the 2010 outfield and Quentin being on the DL as often as he has been, they need to look for a stud outfielder. Kenny made a big mistake in claiming Rios. That money could have gone a long way towards aquiring superior talent this winter. |

This White Sox season has been miserable. Talking about next season right now is like scheduling your next root canal. I have to forget this current disaster that goes on and on and on. |

That seems like a really strong bottom half of the rotation, and a really weak top half, no matter how you line them up. All those guys are borderline 2/3s, except Buehrle at his best (increasingly rare), and maybe Peavy if his numbers transition well to the AL and the ballpark. But in any event, the issues beyond the pitching are going to have to be solved. If they don't solve the defense, those great pitches are going to find their way into holes. |

I have to forget this current disaster that goes on and on and on. Exactly. I am absolutely fatigued on baseball by them. I'm to the point where I'm not even caring about the over/under on season wins. I will say that Buehrle should flourish with Peavey here. Every year he is taxed to the point that he pitches like shit in the second half. If he is the 4th starter next year and they never skip starters he should be able to pitch often with 5+ days of rest. I always have confidence in him when he pitches with extra rest (love to see a John Dewan breakdown of Buehrle on 4, 4 and 6 days of rest). |

1. SIGN CHONE FIGGINS. 2. Resign Mark Kotsay. 3. Pickup Freddy's option. 4. Do not trade Bobby Jenks. 5. Sign a lefty reliever. 6. Sign a DH (Blalock). |

Sun-Times/SCORE Insider Joe Cowley seemed to paint a bleak picture concerning the White Sox even having enough $$$$ to make a free agent run at Anaheim's Chone Figgins when he was on with "B & B" near the end of their show yesterday. I think Jermaine Dye, Bobby Jenks, Octavio Dotel & Scott Podsednik are among the current Sox who won't be back. You also know where I stand on Chris Getz. Not only will Getz be the full-time second baseman next year, if Podsednik goes elsewhere, Chris will also be the full-time lead-off hitter for 2010 with his speed & ability to get on base. I thought Getz did a good job early in the season when Ozzie put him at the top of the order...There is NO CHANCE IN HELL that Gordon Beckham plays shortstop for this team either as long as Alexei Ramirez remains on the team, but Ozzie will really shorten his leash if Alexei doesn't improve considerably. |

Blalock is lefty and 6 years younger. There's money to sign Figgins. Thome ($13M), Dye ($11.5), Contreras ($10), and Dotel ($6M) are coming off the books while they add Rios ($9.7M) and Peavy ($15M). The lefty reliever is the 2nd lefty. Beimel, Grabow, or Mahay would all be upgrades from Randy Williams. Pods can't come back. Ever. |

IMO there are 2 pretty simple keys to the Sox contending next year: 1. The top 4 starters stay healthy and pitch pretty well. 2. Alexei and CQ return to their form of last year. |
