Thought we need a depository for the multiple rumors that will come out of the Indy. I'll start the first one I heard/read: Linebrink to the Dodgers for Juan Pierre and cash. |

Nick Pietruszkiewicz: Question to Ozzie Guillen: What was wrong with Alex Rios, was it mental or mechanical? "Everything," Guillen said. Simple enough. |

Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Sun-Times says White Sox GM Kenny Williams declined to comment on the Roy Halladay sweepstakes, and implies that Hideki Matsui may not be a fit for the South Siders, even if Carlos Quentin moves to right field. Scott Podsednik, however, may still fit |

Apparently, there was some talk of Carlos Quentin for Carl Crawford. The Angry Joe Cowley of the Sun Times wrote: Sources with Tampa Bay and the Sox said the sides had talked several times this offseason, not only checking out closer Bobby Jenks and his availability in a deal, but more specifically a trade that would have sent Carlos Quentin to the Rays for Carl Crawford. Guillen sounded like those talks are all but flat-lined. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball ... 08.article Crawford is a free agent after this year. |

Would they really give up on CQ? After Rios/Peavy how could they afford to do a Halladay trade? |

RFDC wrote: Would they really give up on CQ? Theyd be getting a better player back. RFDC wrote: After Rios/Peavy how could they afford to do a Halladay trade? They cant. Kenny fucked up trying to block Detroit. They got caught holding the Alexis Rios and his giant salary bag. Thats why they couldnt/didnt get Chone. Kenny fuckd up by going for it in a year that the Sox clearly were NOT a World Series threat |

from mlbrumers.com ---The Rays and White Sox discussed a Carlos Quentin-Carl Crawford trade, says Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Manager Ozzie Guillen implies that nothing is cooking on that front though. The two clubs also discussed closer Bobby Jenks, but the Rays did not like the asking price. |

I think Matsui is a nice power LH bat that can replace Thome. The question with him is health. |

Per Joe Cowley - Hideki, Matsui's top choice beyond the Yankees is the White Sox. But he's going to wait for the Yankees to make a decision. He wants to play the outfield at least some of the time, which fits in well with what Kenny said he wanted out of his DH. Sox might be headed to California next week to check out his knee. |

Would Matsui lose some of his left-handed pop playing in the Cell? Yankee Stadium (old and new) is designed for left handed power hitters.. |

Matsui would have had a lot mroe HRs to left center last year had he played at the Cell. He likes to go oppo fairly often. |

So currently the Sox have 15 guys under contract for $80m. By my estimation, they still need: a left fielder a DH a couple RH set up men a backup catcher |

I think the LF/DH will be the same guy and they need a left hander in the bullpen (along with a backup catcher). |

Still some smoke around the Adrian Gonzalez rumors .... or not, depending on your take of Kenny's reaction: Scott Merkin of MLB.com wrote: Earlier in the week, I was talking to Williams and asked him about Jake Peavy. Williams said the two had talked and that Peavy was fired up and ready to go for 2010. He said the purpose of this call to his new ace was to sort of pick Peavy's brain about a former teammate, getting a feel as to what fit he would have in the clubhouse.
When I asked Williams if that player in question was San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez, not expecting any sort of direct answer, Williams paused and then gave me a "No comment." Let's move ahead to Monday, the first official day of the 2009 Winter Meetings, and jump to the half-way point of Williams' 20-minute session with the media. Check out this following interaction. "If you didn't have Jake Peavy, would you be in on Roy Halladay?" a reporter asked Williams of the Toronto ace, who is known to be on the market. "No comment," Williams responded with a smile. "Are you in on Roy Halladay?" another reporter asked. "No comment," Williams answered, still smiling. Either Williams is trying to acquire both Gonzalez and Halladay, judging by the similarity of his responses, or the White Sox general manager has become Major League Baseball's consummate poker player. Before the Halladay press conference is planned at U.S. Cellular Field, though, remember the right-hander has a full no-trade clause, has expressed a desire to stay in Florida for Spring Training and would probably cost the White Sox either John Danks or Gavin Floyd, along with prospects such as Jordan Danks, Daniel Hudson and/or Tyler Flowers, as a purely hypothetical talent package in return. And there's no guarantee Halladay would be anything more than a one-year rental, set to earn $15.75 million in the final year of a three-year, $40 million deal. Of course, I'm taking a huge leap based on two simple words from Williams, who would have probably asked about Babe Ruth's availability if he was running a team at that point. Then again, it's easy to dream about the big catch when Williams is at the helm, even though he readily admits the team is in a financial holding pattern. One reporter I was talking to on Monday night said he never would count out the White Sox. As for the potential pursuit of Juan Pierre, the Dodgers want a starting pitcher in return for the leadoff man/outfielder and the White Sox would want a sizable portion of the $18.5 million owed him over the next two years to be picked up. Doesn't sound like a fit. |

He's an upgrade over the Panzy on the bases and in the filed (though just about anyone is) but I'm not sure Gardner would hit enough to be the everyday leadoff hitter. |

Now that the Yankees have Curtis Granderson patroling center field at the New Yankee Stadium for the forseeable future, Brett Gardner is definitely available & expendable by the new World Series Champions. Because the White Sox are trying to emphasize speed & defense, Gardner would be an ideal fit, especially if Scott Podsednik doesn't lower his asking price. |
