The White Sox have acquired outfielder Juan Pierre from the Dodgers for two minor league pitchers. Yuck. |

Does he have just one year left on his deal? I know he was making upward of $10 million last year. Hopefully we didn't give up too much for him. |

The Dodgers will take on roughly half of Pierre's salary. The outfielder has $18.5MM remaining on his deal ($10MM next year and $8.5MM in 2011), so the Dodgers are taking on about $9MM. |

Up until now, KW had been putting on a magic show. Now he went for the rabbit and pulled his cock instead. Bad signing. |

Wasn't Pods asking for 7 million? I am sure his expectations will drop, but that was the last number I heard him asking for. What is Pierre making? |

I think it may be hidden in this post somewhere. Keyser Soze wrote: The Dodgers will take on roughly half of Pierre's salary. The outfielder has $18.5MM remaining on his deal ($10MM next year and $8.5MM in 2011), so the Dodgers are taking on about $9MM.

I thought the Sox couldn't take on any more salary? They will have to do something with him before 2011 I would think right? |

from mlbrumors .com White Sox Acquire Juan Pierre By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 15 at 9:52am CST] The White Sox acquired Juan Pierre from the Dodgers for two minor league pitchers, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown (and confirmed by Ken Rosenthal). The Dodgers will take on roughly half of Pierre's salary. The outfielder has $18.5MM remaining on his deal ($10MM next year and $8.5MM in 2011), so the Dodgers are taking on about $9MM. Pierre, 32, hit .308/.365/.392 in 425 plate appearances for the Dodgers last year. He stole 30 bases and played well in the outfield, according to UZR (though we don't want to draw sweeping conclusions from 750 innings of work). The White Sox had shown interest in Scott Podsednik and Brett Gardner, but they appear set with their new addition. If Pierre performs close to last year's levels, the White Sox will have themselves a bargain (depending on the pitchers they give up). |

This is what's being reported now: Pierre will cost the White Sox $3 million in ‘10 and $5 milllion in ’11, with the Dodgers picking up $10.5 million of the last $18.5 m. The Dodgers will receive 2 players to be named later. |

IF he hits at least .275 I like this better than paying for Podsednik. Pods has no clue how to run the bases, no defensive instincts, and has always had the cycle of one good year/one bad year. As for giving up minor league pitchers, who cares? WS minor league pitching has almost always been overrated IMO. |

The players to be named later are reportedly John Ely and Jon Link. Link was the closer of the future after saving 35 games in '08 at double A. He only managed 13 saves last season at triple A and lost the job. Ely had a very good year at double A posting a 14-2 record with a 2.82 ERA. He's a RH finesse pitcher with a fastball in the 86-88 MPH range and Baseball America has him as the 8th best prospect in the Sox system. Link wasn't rated. Edit: now they are reporting the Dodgers can pick 2 pitchers from a list and these two are on the list. Not reported how many others are on the list. |
