Suggesting that relying on Jones/Kotsay and not pursuing Branyan or Delgado is misguided... an enigma. Agreed, but I don't think they're giving a fair shake to the available options should KW stay put. Definitely a lot of interesting chatter in the comments, especially from one JoeyO.

Kenny knows the pitching staff is going to keep them in contention and he's (wisely) keeping some payroll and player flexibility so he can add a bat (if needed) during the season. That said, I'd still like to see them make a run at Damon.

I''d be open for Damon but not for a lot of dough. He can play Dh and OF. And you cant teach speed. Pierre and Damon one-two at the top and Bacon in the 5,6 or 7 spot.

DH are going for 1-2 million these days.

Damon is like 36, doesn't play defense well or run at all anymore. Offer him $5mil but there is no way that Bora$ would take that.

Damon won't have to play much defense. He was also 12-12 in stolen bases hit 24 HR's 36 doubles scored 107 runs drove in 82 and had a .365 OBP.

Not the ones that can do what Damon can do.

Yeah, but the Yanks offense overall is better than the Sox.

According to Tyler Kepner of the New York Times, Johnny Damon's one-year contract offer from the Braves is worth $2 million now and $2 million deferred.

1yr/$4M for Johnny Damon?!? I have no idea why the Sox aren't in on this.

Because Damon is fragile and noodle-armed and the Braves are dumb?

Fragile?? Games played in his 14 year career:

145
146
161
145
159
155
154
145
150
148
149
141
143
143

Sure he has a noodle arm but he would mostly DH and occaisionally play LF.

I will really be ill if they let Damon get away for that kind of money. It's really just a matter of Reinsdorf refusing to negotiate with Boras.

I think it's a little more complicated than that, GD. The Sox have a roster crunch on both the 25 and 40 man roster. Signing Damon would mean going a man short in the bullpen or on the bench. They would also have to drop someone from the 40-man in order to sign Damon. They were not happy about having to release Cole Armstrong in order to sign Ramon Castro. That said I think they should find a way to make it work because a player of Damon's ability and pricetag does not come along very often.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman hears from a source that even with deferred money, the Braves offer to Damon totals less than $4M.

Good lord.

Seems he's a .500 hitter against the White Sox. If we cant have him, let the National League have him.

Damon is nearing a decision and the Tigers' offer is the biggest one available to the outfielder, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. Insiders guess the Tigers are offering a one-year deal worth $7M or so. The sides haven't ruled out a two-year deal.

The Braves and Rays are still involved and a source tells Stark that the White Sox have interest. The Braves and Rays are talking one-year deals and neither club has offered as much as the Tigers.

Ah-hah! The Sox have been in on this. I'm not sure about $7M a year but I wouldn't be upset if they gave him a 2 yr deal.
